Chapter 83 - Chapter 83: The God Cards

"What 'changing the course of the future' nonsense… I have no interest in supernatural phenomena," Kaiba said coldly. "Why did you bring me here? If you only wanted to meet us, then sorry—Kisaragi and I are leaving."

"Then please come with me," Isis replied calmly. "There are two murals I want you to see—and I'd like you to hear my request."

"I'm not interested in ancient scraps," Kaiba snapped.

Kisaragi glanced at Isis and smiled faintly. "Kaiba, let's at least take a look. It might actually be interesting. Right, Ms. Isis?"

Isis stiffened—just from that one look. It felt as if she'd been seen through.

"…If you insist," Kaiba said at last. "Fine. We'll look."

He led Kisaragi after Isis, and the three of them headed down into the museum's underground levels.

On the way, Isis began explaining.

"Mr. Kaiba, Ms. Kisaragi—Egypt's Antiquities Bureau was established as a governmental agency to protect important historical treasures from tomb robbers. We monitor excavations across the world to prevent theft—"

Kaiba stopped, irritation plain on his face.

"If you're looking for mummy-digging experts, go elsewhere," he said. "I'm interested in cutting-edge technology and high-performance chips. I don't care about stone fragments that have sat for millennia."

His eyes sharpened.

"You told me on the phone you had the highest-grade rare card. That's the only reason I'm here. So stop wasting time and make the trade."

Isis could see she was losing him, so she dropped a secret.

"Then I'll tell you something," she said softly. "The origin of Duel Monsters… comes from Ancient Egypt."

Kaiba's expression changed.

"What?"

"As you know, Pegasus J. Crawford is called the creator and designer of Duel Monsters," Isis continued. "But he only created Duel Monsters after traveling to Egypt. If you want answers—then please follow me to the underground special exhibition hall."

They arrived at a dim exhibit room deep beneath the museum. It was dark enough that only vague shapes could be made out—two stone panels mounted on the walls.

Isis switched on the lights.

The murals came into full view.

"This is—" Kaiba's eyes widened despite himself.

Inside Kisaragi, Kisara was strangely calm as she looked at the patterns.

"That's right," Isis said. "Years ago, Pegasus came to Egypt. After seeing these murals, he designed Duel Monsters."

She spoke as if recounting a legend carved into the stones:

"Some say that long ago, humans lived alongside monsters—demons, phantoms, and beasts. The people of Ancient Egypt believed all disasters, conflict, and suffering were brought by these creatures. So the king's royal sorcerers gave them form—then sealed them within stone tablets to preserve peace."

"But the tablets that held those monsters accumulated immense evil power. Before long, priests who defied the king began manipulating that power, using sorcerers as tools… and war followed."

As Isis narrated, Kaiba and Kisaragi stared, captivated by the monsters etched into the stone.

"Now, please look at the other mural," Isis said. "This is the one I truly wanted to show you."

Kaiba and Kisaragi stepped to the second panel.

It depicted a battle: a young king facing a priest—an ancient duel frozen in stone.

"This is… Yugi?" Kaiba breathed. "And above him—the Dark Magician?"

"And the one opposing the king is a young priest," Isis added. "The monster above him is unmistakably Blue-Eyes White Dragon."

She lowered her voice.

"A young king commanding black magic… and a priest commanding a white divine beast. This mural is the imprint of the duels that have repeated since antiquity."

At the top of the scene were carvings of the Millennium Puzzle and six other items.

"Legend says that when all seven are gathered, unimaginable power will appear," Isis said. "But that mystery has never been fully solved."

She took a breath.

"Regardless… what matters is that the king and the priest's battle was recorded here. And even now—the conflict repeats."

"No. That's wrong."

Kisaragi's voice cut through the room.

She stepped closer, reaching out to the mural—her fingertips brushing the glass over the priest's face.

The moment she'd seen the mural, the Blue-Eyes spirit within her had let out a sound like a wounded cry.

"The priest never betrayed the king," Kisaragi said, voice firm. "From beginning to end, he was loyal."

"Kisaragi… what are you talking about?" Kaiba asked, moving to her side.

And Isis, startled, asked quietly, "Ms. Kisaragi… do you know the truth of the past?"

But Kisaragi didn't seem to hear either of them.

A blade-like surge of dark energy pierced through her mind—violent, cold, and sharp.

"—Ghk!"

She dropped to one knee, clutching her chest.

A wave of white power surged outward. A translucent silhouette of Blue-Eyes White Dragon burst from her body, crying out in grief.

"That is… Blue-Eyes White Dragon…?" Isis whispered, stunned—and then her gaze snapped to the mural again, to the dragon above the priest.

"Could it be…" she thought. "Does she have a connection to that priest from three thousand years ago?"

The white energy gradually settled.

The Blue-Eyes spirit slipped back into Kisaragi's body.

And Kisaragi collapsed, unconscious.

"…Lord Seth…"

That was the last thing she whispered before blacking out.

Kaiba's pupils constricted.

"Kisaragi! Kisaragi!"

He caught her and held her tightly, calling her name in panic.

"It seems Ms. Kisaragi carries many secrets," Isis said carefully. "Perhaps she, too, is connected to the Pharaoh and that priest from three thousand years ago."

"I don't care about any of that!" Kaiba roared. "I don't believe it, and it has nothing to do with me. The past means nothing. The only thing that matters is now!"

"Then let's speak about the present," Isis said. "But first, please lay Ms. Kisaragi on the sofa. She'll be more comfortable."

Kaiba hesitated—then carried Kisaragi to the sofa in the exhibit hall and gently set her down. He removed his coat and covered her with it.

Only then did he return to the murals—though his gaze kept flicking back to Kisaragi.

"…Talk," he said.

"It's about the 'dream rare card' I mentioned on the phone," Isis replied. "It is something Pegasus left behind."

Kaiba's head snapped up.

"What?"

"Please look there," Isis said, pointing to the top of the mural.

"Above the scene are three figures: Obelisk the Tormentor, Slifer the Sky Dragon, and The Winged Dragon of Ra—three divine beasts."

"In archaeology, we call them… the God Cards."

"God Cards…?" Kaiba repeated, voice low.
