The grotesque masked beast raised its staff and lunged at Nighteye—
"You really think you can pull that off?" Kaiba's voice cut through like steel. "I activate Trap Card—'Ring of Destruction'!"
A circular band packed with explosives snapped around Des Gardius's neck.
"'Ring of Destruction' destroys one monster—and both players take damage equal to that monster's original ATK. But—" Kaiba tapped his Duel Disk without hesitation.
"I chain Quick-Play Spell 'Defense Ring'! This makes all Trap damage 0. Meaning only you take the damage!"
"BOOOOM—!"
The ring detonated. Des Gardius was blown apart on the spot.

"Turn end!" (Mask of Darkness: 1 card in hand)
Yami Yugi watched, half-amused, half-impressed. Honestly… even 1v2, these two could still win. This is basically over.
"My turn—draw!"
Kaiba's eyes flashed.
"I Flip Summon—'Blue-Eyes White Dragon'!"
The white dragon erupted onto the glass platform, roaring straight into the masks' faces.
"B-Blue-Eyes?!" The two of them staggered back, legs trembling.
"Battle! 'Blue-Eyes White Dragon' attacks Mask of Darkness directly—Burst Stream of Destruction!"
Blue-white light gathered in Blue-Eyes's jaws—
"Counter Trap—'Negate Attack'!" Mask of Darkness barked.
A crimson barrier snapped into place, stopping the blast cold.
"Tch… what a shame, Kaiba. You missed your chance to finish me!" Mask of Darkness taunted.
Kaiba's smile turned sharp. "No—you just bought yourself one more breath."
"What?!" Mask of Light flinched.
"My Blue-Eyes can attack either of you this turn. And you're a valid target too," Kaiba said, voice dripping with contempt. "Tell me—if I attack you, will your partner flip a Trap to save you? …No. He wouldn't."
Kaiba ended his turn with that poison hanging in the air.
Mask of Light's gaze slid sideways toward Mask of Darkness, suspicion beginning to boil.
"N-no—of course I'd protect you!" Mask of Darkness snapped, forcing the lie through clenched teeth. "Trust me!"
Kisaragi's eyes narrowed. Good. Now I'll twist the knife.
"That's funny," she said lightly. "When my Housekeeper hit you directly earlier, your partner didn't flip anything at all."
Yami Yugi actually smiled. "Heh… those two are doing it on purpose."
Inside Mask of Light's head, the doubt metastasized.
He always plays the 'boss.' And he didn't save me before either…
Mask of Darkness's thoughts turned vicious.
Damn you, Kaiba… damn you, Kisaragi…
"My turn—draw!"
Mask of Light slammed down 'Pot of Greed', drawing two cards. His face lit up.
"Perfect… I'll gamble everything on this!"
He activated 'Chosen One' and placed three cards forward.
"Two of these are Spell Cards. One is our deck's strongest monster. Choose!"
Kaiba and Kisaragi spoke at the same time:
"The middle one."
Mask of Darkness flipped it—and burst into ugly laughter.
"Hahahaha! Monster card—'Mask Beast Death Guardian'!"
A towering masked fiend manifested.

"3300 ATK… higher than Blue-Eyes!" Kaiba's eyes widened for a split second—then cooled.
Mask of Light licked his lips. "So… who do I attack? Kisaragi? Kaiba?"
Then his gaze hardened.
"Death Guardian attacks Blue-Eyes! Kaiba still has a God Card—better crush him first!"
Kaiba's expression shifted—just slightly.
The fiend raised both hands, energy gathering—
"Hold on," Kisaragi said, voice calm and absolute. "Did I say you were allowed to hit Kaiba?"
"What—?!"
"I activate Trap Card 'Dragonmaid Tidying'! I target one Dragon I control and one card on your field or in your GY—return them to the hand."
"I return my 'Dragonmaid Nighteye'—and your 'Mask Beast Death Guardian'!"
"WHAT?!" Mask of Light's scream cracked.
Kisaragi's eyes gleamed. "Death Guardian needs to go to the Graveyard to trigger its real value. Returning it to the hand means your little 'last will' plan doesn't even start."
Mask of Light's hands shook. "Y-you… you knew?!"
"Of course," she replied, almost bored.
"Turn end." (Mask of Light: 2 cards in hand)
Kisaragi drew.
"That farce ends now."
"Battle—Housekeeper and Nighteye attack directly!"
Twin dragons and maid-servants surged forward like executioners.
"AAAAH—!!"
