Kael… Kael," I called as I passed his door.
The corridor was still quiet. Dawn had not fully broken yet, but sleep had already abandoned me hours ago. My mind refused to rest after what I saw yesterday.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw iron bars, hollow faces and Diane sitting in that corner.
A few minutes later, Kael entered the meeting room, still adjusting the sleeves of his shirt. Two of our men were already seated, their faces serious, sensing this was not a normal morning meeting.
I didn't waste time.
"I have decided to go see Don Virelli," I said.
The words landed heavily in the room.
Kael froze.
"Boss… that is not a good idea," he said immediately. "For what reason?"
I didn't answer at once. I just looked at the table for a brief second before walking forward and taking my seat at the head.
"For Diane," I finally said.
Silence followed.
