DON'S POV
She didn't say anything after the slap.
Cassandra knew better than that.
She spread her already bound legs properly and looked up at me with that particular expression she wore when she had decided compliance was the safer option with her eyes forward, mouth closed, everything else arranged into the performance of willingness.
I climbed back over her.
For a moment I tried thrusting in the rhythm I had always used.
The same controlled pace that had never required effort or thought because it had never needed either. My body knew what it was doing even when my mind was elsewhere.
Except my mind was very elsewhere tonight.
Further than it had ever gone during one of these moments.
I stopped and pulled back. Sat on the edge of the bed and looked at the wall across the room with the flat expression of a man taking stock of a situation that had developed in a direction he hadn't accounted for.
