AND SO THATS MY STORY
the lights dim, and the hum of machinery fills the silence. The being—the one who had just told the civilians his story—sits in a quiet chamber at the heart of the ship. His form is still, but there's a sense of unrest lingering in the air. He's now alone, reflecting on the tale he had just shared with the others.
He leans forward, resting his elbows on the table in front of him. His gaze is distant, but there's a hint of exhaustion behind his eyes. His fingers tap the surface of the table slowly as his mind replays the events he had lived through, the universes he had traveled to, and the being who had reached through the breach to end it all. He clenches his fists, the weight of his journey and its end pressing on him.
The room around him is sparse but functional—an area designed for quiet reflection or strategy. Holographic displays flicker to life, showing the faces of his people, the civilians he's sworn to protect. They trust him, but his heart aches with a feeling of emptiness, knowing he failed to protect the being who had aided them all.
His eyes scan the room, landing on a projection of the universe beyond the ship. Stars shimmer like jewels in the distance, but they feel far away, unreachable. He could feel the cracks in the barrier already beginning to form, as if the universe itself was fragile, ready to break apart at any moment.
A deep, sighing breath escapes his lips, and for a moment, it seems as though he might just give up—let everything slip away. But then, a small, quiet voice echoes from the ship's comms, breaking the silence.
Voice: "Are you alright, Commander?"
The being doesn't move at first, not wanting to show weakness, not wanting to admit that he's struggling. But then he stands slowly, his figure tall and stoic, and moves to the window. He looks out at the vast, endless stretch of space, where the remnants of the worlds he'd visited still linger, waiting to collapse.
Being (softly): "I'm fine. Just… thinking. We've come so far, but it feels like everything is slipping through my fingers."
His eyes narrow, as if searching for something—anything—that could give him hope.
Voice (again, this time more insistent): "You've done everything you could. You told them what they needed to know. Now they will act. It's not on you anymore."
The being's lips curl into a faint smile, but it's laced with sadness. He understands the words, but the burden still feels like a weight he can't cast off.
Being (muttering to himself): "I never wanted it to end like this. I wanted to be the one to finish what I started. The barrier… the universes… They need healing, and now… now it's too late for me."
A pause hangs in the air as he places a hand on the cool surface of the ship's console, as though grounding himself. His voice hardens, filled with resolve.
Being (turning away from the window): "But they need to know. The others need to know what's at stake. I've passed the knowledge on. That's all I can do now."
A soft chime sounds, indicating the arrival of a new message, and he approaches the console. The screen flickers, displaying the face of Mira, her expression somber, but determined.
Mira (through the comms): "We're ready to move forward, Commander. We'll take it from here."
The being smiles, a genuine warmth radiating from him despite the weight of his words.
Being: "I know. You've always been the ones who would carry this burden when the time came. Just… don't make the same mistakes I did."
Mira: "We won't. And neither will Celeste."
The being nods once, as if content with the knowledge that the fight will continue. He straightens himself, turning back toward the holographic view of the cosmos.
Being: "I trust you both. All of you. The universe is in good hands. The future is yours to forge. I will be watching, from the shadows, until the very end."
Another pause, as if the words were harder to say than expected. The weight of the future hangs heavy on him, but he knows the final decision is no longer his to make. He is simply a part of the grand tapestry.
Mira (with determination): "We won't let you down."
The communication ends, leaving the being standing alone, staring out at the expanse.
As the camera zooms out, we see the being standing in the center of the room, alone in the vastness of the ship, the quiet hum of the vessel accompanying him in his final moments. The universe is waiting.
And though his journey was nearing its end, the story was far from over.
