Chapter 303: Double Battle
After searching for a while, May finally found a Wurmple at the bottom of a cliff.
"Wurmple, I'm going to catch you!"
"Go, Torchic, use Peck!"
Torchic scampered over on its short legs to stand before the Wurmple and began pecking at it wildly.
Facing this unreasonable assault, the Wurmple spat out a white thread, sticking to Torchic.
"Torchic, use Ember!"
Torchic opened its mouth and spat out a series of small flames. The flames burned through the thread while dealing massive damage to the Wurmple.
"Go, Poké Ball!"
May threw the Poké Ball.
The Poké Ball flashed with a red light, and the Wurmple was pulled inside.
Watching the Poké Ball shaking on the ground, May couldn't help but clench her hands into fists.
After hearing the 'ding' sound from the Poké Ball, May's heart finally settled. She ran over to pick up the Poké Ball and held it in her palms.
"Hello, excuse me, are you a Pokemon Trainer too?"
Just then, a boy appeared in front of May.
"Huh? Yes, I am. Is something wrong?" May looked at him, puzzled.
"Hello, my name is James Hazama, could you please battle me?"
The boy asked with a sincere expression.
"No problem!"
May had truly learned from Ash; she never turned down a battle request from anyone.
"How about a Double Battle?" James Hazama asked.
"A Double Battle?" May looked at him, confused.
"Hmm... are you a new Trainer?"
"Yeah, I just started my journey."
"A Double Battle is when two Pokemon are sent out at the same time to fight in coordination. This style of battle really tests a Trainer's command ability and the coordination between their Pokemon, so many Gym challenges use this rule," James Hazama explained.
"Oh, I see."
May suddenly understood.
"The two Pokemon I'll be using for this battle are these. Come on out, Nincada, Ledian!"
Considering that May was a new Trainer, James Hazama did not choose to use his full strength.

Because of the sand, Wurmple's thread went wide, just missing Ledian. However, Torchic's Ember was a wide-range spray; Nincada on the ground got a face full of it, while Ledian's Supersonic landed on Wurmple, causing it a great deal of discomfort.

Ash and Brock were just preparing lunch when they also encountered a boy who challenged them.
The battle style was the same as May and James Hazama's—a Double Battle.
"Ariados, Yanma, come on out!"

Ariados and Yanma's attacks hit toward Treecko on the ground simultaneously. Treecko took a step, increased its speed, and dodged both attacks, while Taillow took the opportunity to charge at Yanma.
"Yanma, dodge quickly! Ariados, use Night Shade."
Just as Taillow was about to collide with it, Yanma suddenly climbed upward, and Ariados on the ground used Night Shade on Taillow with its eyes.
"Taillow, use Double Team! Treecko, use Pound now!"

Then, a strange scene occurred: James Hazama, who had challenged May, looked almost exactly the same as the boy who had challenged Ash.
After some inquiries, they learned that the two boys were twin brothers. The one who had battled Ash was named Ichiro Hazama, who had just returned from traveling, while James Hazama had stayed behind to protect the forest.
But after the battle with May, James Hazama decided he wanted to go on a journey, so the two brothers swapped jobs.
During lunch, May's newly caught Wurmple acted as if it had never had a full meal in its life, devouring everyone's lunch.
"Oh my goodness! This Wurmple can really eat!" Brock exclaimed.
Ash also shook his head helplessly. "Indeed, it's quite the little glutton."
After eating, the Wurmple burped comfortably, then came to May's feet, curled into a ball, and fell asleep.
May wasn't angry about her lunch being eaten this time. "This little one is actually really cute!"
"Yeah, maybe it'll become a big shot in the future!" Brock said, sweating.

Under the setting sun.
On a tree growing on a cliff.
The Team Rocket Trio were clinging tightly to the tree, which was about as thick as a bowl.
After being blasted away by Marshadow, they were unfortunately stuck in a precarious position.
