Chapter 1 - Is this a Joke?!

"Master, I'm so sorry. My father refused to listen to what I said, I still wanna be your disciple, please forgive me."

"You unfilial kid, you dare side with this scammer, young man living in the forest acting like a sage in seclusion? It truly seems that I overly doted on you too much, as your mother always said!"

"Father. But..."

Before he could finish his words, the middle-aged man with dark skin pushed the young man in front of the wooden house door with a bit of force and stormed inside, his eyes flashing with a cruel glint.

"If it weren't for my son's pleading, I would have killed you already for daring to scam my son," The man, gnashing his teeth from anger, messed up the entire tiny house of simple fourtnites looking for his money.

"Found it," Sighing in relief, the middle-aged man took the dozen or so stones from under the bed and left. Before leaving, he spat in front of the young man with disheveled hair and warned.

"Scam one more person again, and I'll make sure to torture you till that filthy soul of yours leaves your body!"

Crack!

With a stomp of his feet, the earth cracked beneath him.

"Do you understand my words?" Placing his hands on the hilt of his sword, the middle-aged man didn't move an inch as he locked his gaze with the young man on the dirt; his sight was so pathetic that even a beggar would feel sorry for him.

The young man slightly nodded his head with much difficulty.

"Good."

Saying that word, the man gently grabbed the wrist of his son and took him away, his face still showing signs of deep hatred towards what had just happened.

"Father, please let me go back."

"Dan, how can you be so stupid. That beggar is no hidden expert in the foot of the mountain cultivating his spells in seclusion, he is merely a scammer!"

Darius heard a fierce quarrel as he slowly opened his eyes. Confused memories stabbed into his mind like tens of millions of needles while fragmented images were being rapidly woven in his head.

"Aghhh!"

'My head really hurts….'

This was Darius's first thought upon waking up. It felt like his head was going to explode as he grabbed it, his eyes getting redder by the moment as tears uncontrollably stormed down his cheeks into his chin and onto the ground.

"Damn it, what kind of..."

The pain continued for an entire minute before Darius's blurred vision became a bit clearer, and the pain greatly subsided.

'Where is this?'

'What happened to me?'

Fragments of memory washed over him!

Darius's mind was somewhat sluggish, hazy as he observed his surroundings in a daze.

'This doesn't seem like a dream.' That thought suddenly made Darius's entire body shake as he finally let out a breath before saying in a rather complicated tone.

"I died very young without stepping into that realm!"

'I kind of expected to fail the breakthrough...but dying with merely twenty-five years of lifespan is a bit...'

Brushing away such disturbing memories, he quickly focused on his current problem,' Reincarnation.' Darius chuckled before his eyes widened in horror as several memories flashed past him.

'Wait...what? I've become Darius, the number one worst scammer in the First Sanctuary City, who is also an orphan?!' Darius looked like he had seen a ghost as he quickly made his way to the room, looked at himself in the semi-destroyed mirror hung on the wooden wall, and bitterly smiled.

'You must be kidding...yes, this is clearly a joke.' Darius shook his head several times, yet no matter how many times he tried to deny the facts, the reality was still in front of him.

A world where humans with talents that became either mages or knights, summoned from earth to fight inside the myriad races battling for resources. Funily enough, those with power hold the most influence and decide who lives and who dies...

And he was a beggar inside of a young man with no talent in anything...

Meanwhile, memories continued to come to him...

His meridians are broken and thus...his body is not fit to be an awakener and will immediately break with the slightest exertion of force.

Phew...

Taking a deep breath and slowly exhaling, Darius thought,' I have been one step away from the Ascended Realm in my life, I surely can fix this...right?'

Unfortunately, deep down, Darius knew that this young man's journey was about to end, and no matter how many times he tried to think positively, the reality could not be altered by simple 'positive vibes'.

As for what he referred to as the Ascended realm? Laughable...Darius was speaking about his gaming experience in video games.

-_-

Indeed, Darius was a shut-in who, after trying to climb the ladder in his past life and become a billionaire, failed miserably, destroyed his deceased father's long-built small company due to his poor decisions, and ruined his future.

Taking a deep breath, he recalled things that might be useful.

In the novels he used to read about awakeners to pass the time after becoming the 'mighty figure' he was, reincarnators always ended up in a young body with talent so terrifying that the peerless geniuses under the seven heavens would cry in despair.

Yet...

'I'm useless again?'

"No, I can change this, I have to!"

"I first need to go to the city. As for the dangers?" Darius snorted. Inwardly, however, he couldn't help but sigh,' No one cares about a crippled young man anyway.'

With that thought in mind, he quickly pushed the wooden bed with much effort, removed a few blocks of wood, and then a bronze box appeared before him.

'Although this young man was a scammer, his mind was still shrewd enough to hide a bit of his spoils from people he scammed before they stormed his house.' Darius wiped the sweat off his forehead from the bit of force he had to exert just now. He then took out the bronze box, opened it, and retrieved a few stones from inside, along with a small pouch lying right underneath them.

'Three power stones and a hundred gold coins, this should be enough to buy a few high-tier medicines and fix the miserable state of this body.' As he thought of that, a ringing sound echoed before an eerie mechanical voice could be heard in his mind.
