Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Cold Stones of Jedha and the Audible Audit

The approach to Jedha was a study in monochromatic spirituality. From the cockpit of the Black Pearl, the moon appeared as a jagged, ochre marble suspended in the cold void, its surface a graveyard of ancient temples and wind-carved canyons. Even through the reinforced Beskar-Phrik hull, the moon felt heavy—not with gravity, but with the concentrated presence of the Force.

Revan Shan sat in the pilot's seat, his feet propped up on the edge of the Kyber-Quantum console, idly tossing a lemon candy into the air and catching it in his mouth. He was dressed in his black-and-red armored weave, but his T-shaped mask remained locked in its Beskar safe. Today, he wanted to see Jedha with his own eyes, not through a sensor array.

"You know, Cortana," Revan said, savoring the tart zing of the candy, "according to my 2nd Doctorate in Planetary Ecology, Jedha shouldn't be this cold. The orbital mechanics suggest a temperate climate, but the Force... it has a way of sucking the heat out of a place, doesn't it? It's like a giant spiritual heat sink."

"The Automatic Stealth Generator is holding steady, Revan," Cortana replied, her blue avatar flickering with a touch of static from the moon's high mineral content. "I've spoofed our signature to match a comet's debris trail. The Guardians of the Whills are currently busy auditing the pilgrims in NiJedha; they won't notice a 'shooting star' landing in the desert."

R2-D6 issued a sharp, rhythmic series of whistles, which was immediately answered by an aggressive, metallic clank as Chopper (C1-10P) smacked the R2 unit's dome with a manipulator arm.

"Chopper! Try to be nice! Do good! But never fail to be kind!" Revan shouted over his shoulder, his eyes sparkling with the 11th Doctor's manic energy. "And that includes being kind to the nav-computer. If you shock it again, we'll end up auditing the center of a sun, and I haven't finished my latte."

The Descent into the Dust

The Black Pearl touched down in a remote canyon, miles from the Holy City. The ramp lowered into a howling wind that carried the scent of ancient stone and burnt incense. Revan stepped out, his black robes whipping around him, followed by the clanking forms of his droids.

*"Statement: Master, my sensors are detecting a 98% probability of 'Ancient Secrets' and a 2% probability of 'Sand in my joints'," * HK-47 whirred, his Beskar-Phrik frame reflecting the dim sunlight. "Observation: This moon is a target-rich environment for a 'kind' audit. Many meatbags here are searching for enlightenment; I could 'kindly' provide them with the ultimate light: the one at the end of the tunnel."

"No liquidations today, HK. We're on a treasure hunt," Revan said, pulling out his Sonic Screwdriver. He flicked the switch, and the Kyber-Cyan tip hummed with a soft, melodic trill. "Maz says the sub-layers are beneath the old temple district. According to my 8th Doctorate in Ancient Art & Archaeology, the 'True' Jedha is buried under five kilometers of religious bureaucracy."

They navigated the ruins, utilizing Force Jump and Force Enhance to descend into a yawning fissure that led deep into the moon's crust. As the sunlight faded, Revan utilized the Sonic's light to guide them.

"This is spectacular," Revan whispered, touching the walls. "Pre-Republic masonry. Look at the joints, Miner. No mortar. Just molecular cohesion through Force-resonant vibration."

The Sub-Layer Temple

The deeper they went, the colder it became. Eventually, they reached a massive, obsidian-plated door buried in the bedrock. It didn't look Jedi. It looked... Rakatan.

"An Infinite Empire outpost on the moon of the Whills," Revan mused, his sassy grin widening. "That's like finding a chemistry set in a cathedral. Highly irregular. I love it."

The door was sealed by a complex, interlocking puzzle of floating geometric shapes. It wasn't a standard lock; it was a Rakatan Logic-Gate, a mechanism that required the simultaneous calculation of three-dimensional gravitational constants.

"Right then," Revan said, stepping forward. "R2-D6, you could probably slice this in ten minutes. My gauntlets could brute-force the encryption in five. And I could just 'feel' the tumblers with the Force and walk in. But where's the adventure in that?"

He held up the Sonic Screwdriver.

"This thing has a 12% failure rate when dealing with Infinite Empire tech," Revan said, his eyes glowing with the 11th Doctor's thrill for risk. "It's fickle, it's loud, and it might accidentally trigger a localized earthquake. It's perfect."

The Sonic Audit

Revan began the audit. He aimed the Sonic at the center of the puzzle, the cyan light strobing in time with the mechanism's rhythmic hum.

"Come on, you beautiful bit of silver," Revan muttered. "Talk to me. Tell me your frequency."

> The Rakatan Logic-Gate Variable (\Omega_L):

> Revan utilized his 1st Doctorate in Theoretical Physics and 9th in Advanced Mathematics to manually adjust the Sonic's resonance, trying to match the decaying Rakatan signal.

The puzzle-gate groaned. The floating obsidian pieces began to spin, faster and faster, emitting a high-pitched shriek that made Chopper hide behind a pillar.

"Master Shan," M1-NR (Miner) noted, his silver optics flickering, "the localized gravitational flux is reaching critical levels. According to my Kyber-Quantum core, the Sonic is currently fighting a feedback loop."

"I know! Isn't it brilliant?" Revan laughed, his face lit up by the cyan glow. "It might fail! It might actually blow up in my hand! This is what the Jedi Council is missing—the sheer, unadulterated terror of a tool that doesn't work perfectly!"

The shriek reached a crescendo. The Sonic's tip flared a brilliant white-blue. Then, with a sudden, satisfying click-vwoop, the obsidian pieces snapped back into the door, and the massive slab slid open with a hiss of ancient air.

"Audit complete!" Revan shouted, triumphantly pocketing the device. "Try to be nice, Rakata! Your door was very rude, but I've corrected the ledger."

The Lost Holocron

Inside the chamber was a sanctuary of white marble and gold filigree. It was a Jedi hideout, preserved by the Rakatan seal for thousands of years. In the center, resting on a pedestal of pure Kyber, was a Holocron—silver and translucent, pulsing with a soft, steady light.

Revan walked forward, his 12th Doctor's weariness returning as he looked at the relic. He reached out with the Force—not the math, but the feeling—and the Holocron opened.

"To the Maverick who finds this," a holographic Master from an era long forgotten spoke, "the Whills are not just observers. They are the memory of the light. This archive contains the Visions of the Unwritten—the potential paths of the Order before the Republic turned the Force into a tool of the Senate."

Revan's eyes widened. This was the ultimate loot. A backup of the Jedi Order's original, unadulterated vision.

"Miner," Revan said, his voice quiet. "Sync this with the Personal Holocron. Don't miss a single data-packet. This isn't just history; it's a spare tire for the soul."

The Long Journey Home

As they hiked back to the Black Pearl, the sun was setting behind the jagged peaks of Jedha. Revan sat on a rock for a moment, looking at the Sonic Screwdriver in his hand.

"It really is just a toy, isn't it?" he asked the droids.

HK-47 whirred. "Statement: Master, it is a highly inefficient weapon. However, the 'vwoop' sound it makes is surprisingly satisfying. It is a 'kind' addition to your eccentricities."

"It's fun, HK," Revan grinned, popping another candy. "And adventure is the journey. If I had used the Force, the door would have just opened. By using the Sonic, I had five minutes of genuine doubt. And doubt is what keeps the adventure alive."

The Black Pearl lifted off from the dusty moon, its Invisible Cloak re-engaging as it snapped into hyperspace. 123 BBY was drawing to a close, and the Maverick had a new Holocron, a new toy, and a very large appetite for noodles.

"Next stop: Coruscant," Revan said to the stars. "I hear Master Sol is getting better at Form III. I think it's time I audited his defense again."

The freighter vanished into the cobalt tunnel of hyperspace. The Maverick was home, the secret was safe, and the journey... well, the journey was just getting to the good part.
