The deep feeling of unease only became worse by the arrival of her surprise visitor.
Aria was in the garden, planting flower seed when a shadow blocked her view. She looked up and there he was; standing tall and handsome in a white uniform ribbed with gold cords, a grim look on his face.
"Y-you! What are you doing here??"
Caspian stretched out a hand to help her to her feet.
"I'm glad to see you're settling in well, Aria."
Aria barely a moment to steady herself as she took him in. That uniform ....He looked every inch of the commander uniform crisp, cloak draped over one shoulder.
"You're going to war, aren't you?"
A flicker of tenderness laced her tone.
Their eyes met, something raw flickered beneath the surface.
"Im afraid so, Lady Aria," Caspian said, taking in her concern for him that lingered beneath the surface.
The air between them felt thick, charged with everything left unsaid. Caspian clearly had a lot to say but he couldn't. He knew he didn't deserve it.
