"So you've been staying in his mansion?"
Roseanne let out a heavy sigh. Hearing Lucian's voice again after what felt like forever stirred too many things she needed him to know.
"I don't know if staying here is the right call," she admitted, stepping toward the window, her phone pressed close to her ear. Outside, a few guards lingered as they always did. "But for now… it's the safest option we have. Especially since Matteo has taken an interest in me and Kaden lately."
On the other end, Lucian exhaled sharply, the strain obvious.
"I don't know if I'd call that safe," he said. "A Romano is still a Romano and you're not part of their family." He paused briefly. "But I can't exactly get you out either, not right now. It's pure chaos here."
Roseanne frowned. "Why? They still haven't settled on the new head?"
Lucian lowered his voice. "Everyone's been attacking each other these past few weeks. I can't even sleep properly without thinking I'll wake up with Matteo's gun on my face."
