Chapter 216 - Chapter 216: So Damn Cool! One-Handed Ball Grip

That viral video on YouTube was actually edited and uploaded by Suns rookie Goran Dragić.

He had been far too shocked. In his eyes, Blake Su was both incredibly strong and a super genius, and that kind of extraordinary learning ability should not be buried.

He knew that once the video was uploaded, it would definitely cause a stir, but he never expected it to blow up far beyond what he had imagined.

The video shot straight into the top five of YouTube's daily trending videos.

For a relatively ordinary basketball video, one that viewers who did not understand the details might not even recognize as explosive, reaching the top three on YouTube was truly impressive.

Of course, the reason it became so popular was not only because the fact that Blake Su was a super genius was eye-catching. Blake Su's own sky-high popularity recently was also a major factor.

But no matter what, the release of Goran Dragić's edited video truly gave Blake Su the title of "super genius."

More importantly, Blake Su was now a "super rookie" who combined athletic talent, strength, and learning ability. After Nike's boss learned about the situation, he was furious and fired Manager Karl, the man who had once failed to recruit Blake Su.

Karl's scalp went numb, and he was filled with regret. If he had known Blake Su was such an outstanding "super genius," then even if he had to sell everything he owned, he would have signed Blake Su at any cost.

"Sigh..."

Karl leaned against the bed at home and let out a long sigh, looking as if he had lost all will to live.

However, after Blake Su learned about this, he did not know whether to laugh or cry. He really wanted to say that he was not nearly as much of a genius as the fans and media made him out to be.

But it seemed impossible to explain clearly.

So he could only go along with it and reluctantly accept the title of "super genius."

...

The next day.

After the leading vote-getter results were announced, and while the video of Blake Su's post-up game continued to cause a huge reaction on YouTube, the NBA regular season was also still in full swing.

Tonight, the Suns would host the Clippers at home.

There was a huge gap between the two teams' records, but the matchup between "Monster Rookie" Blake Su and "No. 1 pick" Griffin was still a major point of interest for fans.

Of course, rather than watching how Blake Su and Griffin would attack each other, fans were more interested in seeing just how many levels above Griffin the fellow rookie, "T0 level" Blake Su, really was.

Soon, it was 9 p.m.

At the US Airways Center.

The clash between the Suns and the Clippers began.

"Jump ball!"

Blake Su and DeAndre Jordan contested the opening tip.

In an instant, his leaping talent was visible to the naked eye. Blake Su tipped the ball away first, and Curry caught it before pushing forward to run the Suns' first possession of the game.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

At the top of the arc, a handoff sent the ball to Blake Su. Griffin immediately stepped up to guard him, while small forward Gomes came over from the wing to help, preparing to double-team Blake Su.

That was right.

They doubled Blake Su from the very beginning.

"Whoosh!"

Blake Su immediately passed the ball out, finding Curry open on one side. Curry caught it, raised his hands, and fired a three.

"Swish!"

Quick release, clean make.

Nothing but net.

On the next possession, Blake Su drove in, drew a double-team, and passed to Nash on the low block on one side. Nash was open as well and calmly took a steady mid-range jumper.

"Swish!"

Good again.

"Clang!"

Griffin attacked the basket but missed. Frye grabbed the rebound and sent an outlet pass to Blake Su at the top of the arc. Without holding the ball, Blake Su immediately passed ahead to Curry, who was already sprinting out.

Suns fast break.

Curry drove all the way into the paint.

"Boom!"

A one-handed dunk from the "Baby-Faced Assassin" blasted the rim.

The Suns opened with a 7 to 0 run against the Clippers. Blake Su had not scored a single point, but this was the price they paid for choosing to double-team him from the start.

"Don't double him right away!"

Griffin realized the problem and growled, deciding to guard Blake Su one-on-one.

And then.

"Slap!"

On another possession, Blake Su held the ball at the top of the arc, facing Griffin one-on-one. He dribbled between his legs repeatedly to find his rhythm. The moment the ball was in his right hand.

"Whoosh!"

His entire body shot to the right. Griffin's gaze sharpened, and he followed.

But.

"Screech!"

After one step forward, Blake Su suddenly stopped and pulled the ball back through his legs. Griffin saw it and hurried to brake, but Blake Su had already jumped and released a mid-range shot.

"Swish!"

The jumper went in.

Possession changed.

Griffin knew exactly how to use his own advantage. He wanted to use his strength to push through Blake Su on the way into the paint, then attack the rim.

But Blake Su was tall, had long arms, and could jump.

Even if he did not have enough strength and got bumped aside, the interference he created by leaping at the final moment was still enormous. Griffin's attack on the basket failed.

"Slap!"

Blake Su defended it himself and grabbed the rebound himself.

"Whoosh!"

He accelerated with the ball himself. At the same time, Nash and Curry both sprinted into the frontcourt, spreading out to both sides as shooters.

Gomes, who had gotten back on defense in time, did not know who to guard.

"Whoosh!"

Blake Su came charging up, stopped one step beyond the three-point line at the top of the arc, and rose straight up. The ball shot toward the rim like an arrow released from a bow, piercing through the net.

"Swish!"

Three-pointer made.

Suns 13, Clippers 2.

Only three minutes had passed, and the lead was already 11 points. Blake Su's arrogant, unreasonable three-pointer ignited the home crowd even further.

"Boom!"

Cheers and shouts surged like a tidal wave.

Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro had no choice but to call a timeout to slow the Suns' momentum.

Back from the timeout.

Griffin called for a screen, forced his way past Curry, and attacked the basket again. This time, he made the layup, finally stopping the bleeding for the Clippers with a tough finish.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

Nash pushed the ball across half court and passed to Blake Su. With Frye setting a high screen, Blake Su moved to the right wing high post and got a mismatch against Gordon.

"Step!"

Griffin came over to double.

"Whoosh!"

Blake Su immediately passed to Curry at the top of the arc. Griffin hurried after him, but Curry lobbed the ball high again, sending it right back into Blake Su's hands.

"Slap!"

Blake Su caught the ball, backing down the 193 centimeter Gordon. The massive 24 centimeter height difference was obvious at a glance.

"Hiss!"

The corner of Gordon's mouth twitched, and panic rose in his heart. He knew perfectly well that he could not guard Blake Su, so he pressed close and kept reaching in for the ball.

He was trying to strip it.

"Slap!"

To be fair, after swiping at it repeatedly, he really did knock the ball out of Blake Su's hands. Unfortunately, it did not go out of bounds. Blake Su recovered it and once again backed into Gordon.

Although Gordon had not stolen it, his active defense had burned 6 seconds off the Suns' possession. Now the Suns only had 7.3 seconds left on the shot clock.

"Whoosh!"

Gordon kept reaching in, trying to disrupt him even more.

However, at that moment, Blake Su, who had been backing down Gordon with the ball held in front of his abdomen, suddenly gripped the ball in one hand with his right hand, straightened his arm, and raised it high at an angle.

"That pose?!"

At the commentary desk, Jon Barry's eyes widened as he exclaimed, "A one-handed ball grip!"

Mark Jackson looked fired up and clicked his tongue. "Wow. The one-handed grip that once took the league by storm has slowly disappeared, and now Blake Su has brought it back.

"That grip, that pose, is just insanely cool!"
