Chapter 91 - Chapter 91 When Silence Breaks

Chapter 91: When Silence Breaks

(Jay Jay's POV)

The moment froze.

Time—

Stopped.

Keifer stood at the end of the hallway.

Eyes locked on me.

On us.

On everything I tried so hard to hide.

Not confusion.

Not shock.

Recognition.

Jay (whisper, breath catching):

"…you weren't supposed to be here."

Keifer didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Keifer (low):

"I could say the same thing."

The team behind me went still.

Sophia lowered her laptop slightly.

Savannah's eyes flicked between us.

Amy stepped back.

Olivia stayed silent.

Mia watched carefully.

Because they all knew—

This wasn't about the mission anymore.

This was about us.

I stepped forward slowly.

Jay:

"Keifer—"

Keifer (sharp):

"No."

That one word—

Cut deeper than anything.

Keifer:

"Don't. Not here."

Silence crashed between us.

Keifer looked around.

At the weapons.

At the team.

At me.

Keifer:

"You've been doing this… behind my back?"

Jay:

"I was protecting you."

Keifer laughed.

But there was no humor in it.

Keifer:

"Protecting me?"

He stepped closer.

Each step heavy.

Controlled.

Keifer:

"From my own father?"

My breath hitched.

Jay:

"…yes."

Silence.

And then—

Something in his eyes broke.

Not anger.

Not yet.

Something deeper.

Keifer (quiet, hurt):

"And you didn't think I deserved to know?"

Jay:

"If you knew, you would've done something reckless."

Keifer:

"So you lied."

Jay:

"I didn't lie—"

Keifer (cutting in):

"You hid it."

Silence.

Jay:

"…yes."

That honesty—

Didn't help.

Keifer closed his eyes for a second.

Then opened them again.

Colder.

Keifer:

"Unbelievable."

Sophia stepped forward slightly.

Sophia:

"We should move. This isn't the place—"

Keifer (without looking):

"I'm not talking to you."

The room went silent again.

Jay:

"Keifer, please—"

Keifer:

"No. You don't get to say 'please' now."

That hurt.

More than anything.

Jay:

"I did this for you."

Keifer:

"And I didn't ask you to."

Jay:

"You didn't have to."

Keifer:

"That's the problem!"

His voice echoed.

Sharp.

Loud.

Keifer:

"You decide everything on your own. You take all the risks. And I'm just supposed to what? Sit there and smile?"

Jay:

"I was keeping you safe!"

Keifer:

"By shutting me out?"

Jay:

"Yes!"

Silence.

Heavy.

Explosive.

Jay (voice breaking slightly):

"Because I can't lose you, Keifer!"

That stopped him.

For a second.

But only for a second.

Keifer:

"And you think I can lose you?"

My heart dropped.

Keifer:

"You think I'd be okay with you risking your life like this?"

Jay:

"I can handle it."

Keifer:

"That's not the point!"

The tension snapped.

Olivia stepped in quietly.

Olivia:

"We need to leave. Now."

Sophia nodded.

Sophia:

"Everyone out."

One by one—

The Obsidian Circle moved.

Savannah.

Amy.

Mia.

Olivia.

Sophia.

They left.

Not a word.

Not a sound.

Just me.

And him.

Standing in the aftermath.

(Later — Watson Penthouse)

(Keifer's POV)

The silence in the house was unbearable.

Not peaceful.

Not calm.

Broken.

She walked in first.

Didn't look at me.

I followed.

Every step heavy.

Every thought louder than the last.

Keifer:

"So this is what you've been doing."

Jay didn't turn.

Jay:

"Yes."

Keifer:

"For how long?"

Jay:

"Long enough."

That answer—

Made something snap inside me.

Keifer:

"Long enough?"

Jay:

"Don't start."

Keifer:

"Don't start?"

I laughed.

Bitter.

Sharp.

Keifer:

"You don't get to say that."

She turned now.

Eyes blazing.

Jay:

"And you don't get to act like I didn't save your life tonight."

Silence.

Keifer:

"I didn't ask you to."

Jay:

"You didn't have a choice!"

Keifer:

"I always have a choice!"

Jay:

"Not when your father is trying to kill you!"

That hit.

Hard.

Silence.

Keifer (low):

"…you should've told me."

Jay:

"I couldn't."

Keifer:

"You wouldn't."

Jay:

"I was protecting you!"

Keifer:

"And hurting me in the process!"

The words hung in the air.

Jay froze.

Keifer:

"You think this is about danger?"

I stepped closer.

Keifer:

"It's about trust."

Her eyes softened—just a little.

Jay:

"I do trust you."

Keifer:

"Then why didn't you tell me?"

Silence.

She had no answer.

And that?

That hurt the most.

Keifer (quiet, broken):

"I would've stood with you."

Jay's voice dropped.

Jay:

"I didn't want you in danger."

Keifer:

"I'm already in danger!"

The room felt too small.

Too tight.

Keifer:

"You don't get to decide my life for me, Jay."

Jay:

"And you don't get to die on me!"

Silence exploded.

Both of us breathing hard.

Standing there.

Broken.

Then—

She looked away.

Jay (quiet):

"…I can't do this right now."

Keifer:

"Of course you can't."

That was the last straw.

Jay:

"Fine."

She walked past me.

Fast.

Determined.

Toward the guest room.

Keifer:

"Where are you going?"

Jay didn't stop.

Jay:

"Somewhere I don't have to fight you."

The door slammed.

Loud.

Final.

(Jay Jay's POV — Guest Room)

I leaned against the door.

My chest rising and falling too fast.

Tears blurred my vision.

Jay (whisper):

"…why does this hurt so much?"

Because it wasn't just a fight.

It was trust.

Love.

Fear.

All crashing at once.

I slid down slowly.

Sitting on the floor.

Alone.

(Keifer's POV — Outside)

I stood there.

Staring at the closed door.

My hands clenched.

Keifer (quiet):

"…great."

The house felt empty.

Even though she was just a few steps away.

And somehow—

That made it worse.

Because for the first time in a long time—

We weren't on the same side.

Chapter Moral ✦

Love isn't just about protecting each other—it's about trusting each other enough to face danger together.

Secrets may come from good intentions,

but they can still break the strongest bonds.

Because sometimes…

the biggest fights happen not from lack of love—

but from loving too much.
