Chapter 49: Second Stage Heart Burning
Time always passed quickly when one was busy.
Lin Mo checked the prescriptions one by one, skillfully pulling open the small medicine drawers, weighing out the ingredients, wrapping them, and handing them to the waiting patients.
Fortunately, his luck was fairly good today. He did not run into any patients who needed massage or bone setting, which saved him quite a bit of time.
After the busiest period ended, Lin Mo handed the task of dispensing medicine over to another Medical Hall apprentice who had come to relieve him.
Then, without delay, he slipped back into the room where the Medical Hall kept its books and began reading with great interest.
As he read, he deepened his memory of the parts that interested him most, engraving them bit by bit into his mind.
Before long, the sky gradually darkened, and the number of patients in the Medical Hall began to decrease. That also meant his work for the day was nearly over.
He greeted Ye Lingling and Elder Ye, then recalled Charmander, who had fallen asleep on the floor after eating and drinking its fill, and left the Medical Hall.
On the way back, he stopped at a familiar roadside noodle stall for dinner.
A large bowl of steaming bone broth noodles warmed his stomach, dispelled the evening chill, and filled his empty belly.
By the time Lin Mo returned to Heaven Dou Intermediate Spirit Master Academy, night had fully fallen, and lights were beginning to glow in the dormitory building.
He walked up to the 6th floor and, out of habit, glanced toward the door of room 608 next door. It was still completely dark inside.
As expected, Tianlin had not returned yet.
That battle maniac had probably gone off to some sparring field again after the afternoon's free cultivation period ended to find someone to fight.
When Lin Mo had first started staying at the academy, Tianlin would occasionally come looking for him to spar.
Even though he clearly knew he was no match for Charmander, Tianlin was still always full of fighting spirit whenever he faced it.
One could only say that Tianlin truly lived up to his reputation as one of the academy's famous battle maniacs.
It was only because this was Heaven Dou Intermediate Spirit Master Academy that the infirmary permanently had a 4 ring Healing System Spirit Master stationed there.
That allowed Tianlin to receive treatment in time, ensuring that his injuries would not affect his foundation or future cultivation.
In any other academy, it would never be possible to maintain such a setup.
Healing System Spirit Masters were valued no matter where they went.
Shaking his head helplessly, Lin Mo took out his key, opened the door to room 609, and walked in.
He closed the door behind him and flipped the light switch. Soft light instantly drove away the darkness in the room.
As usual, he locked the door from the inside, then walked to the desk, unlocked the drawer with a small key, and took out a somewhat thick notebook.
Spreading the notebook open and picking up a pen, he began recording and summarizing what he had learned and seen at the Medical Hall today.
He did not write very quickly. From time to time, he would pause to think before recording his own understanding and guesses.
After finishing, Lin Mo closed the notebook and locked it back inside the drawer.
What was written in that notebook were merely some of the insights and experiences he had gained at the Medical Hall.
It was more of a personal summary than anything else.
As for the research and deductions related to his second Martial Soul and his self created Spirit Skill, [Blood Burst], he never recorded any of that on a physical object.
Those things were all firmly kept in his mind, with no trace left in the outside world.
He understood the principle of always guarding against others.
If the existence of his second Martial Soul were exposed early over such a small oversight, that would truly be a case of losing the greater for the lesser.
After putting the notebook away, Lin Mo did not waste any more time.
With a thought, he summoned Charmander again.
"Stand guard for me. Don't let anyone interrupt me," Lin Mo instructed.
Charmander wagged its tail and let out a soft "char" in response.
Then it padded over to the door, keeping a vigilant watch over the surroundings and faithfully carrying out its duty as a protector.
Lin Mo was completely at ease leaving such a task to Charmander.
Only then did he sit cross legged on the bed, close his eyes, assume the posture of five hearts facing the sky, and begin his cultivation for the day.
However, before he officially started cultivating his Spirit Power, Lin Mo, as usual, first circulated the power of his qi and blood.
As the qi and blood power began to move actively, a layer of faint red glow, so light it would be hard to notice without careful observation, gradually appeared on the surface of his body. The blood vessels beneath his skin also seemed to bulge slightly.
This was the self created Spirit Skill Lin Mo had developed based on the characteristics of his Body Martial Soul, Blood Burst, currently in its 1st stage, Boiling Blood.
In the Boiling Blood state, Lin Mo could temporarily strengthen different parts of his body, greatly increasing his speed, strength, and reaction time.
Moreover, while maintaining and using Blood Burst, his body would also undergo a kind of tempering effect, causing his physical condition to improve little by little.
Although each improvement was tiny, the accumulated effect over time was still quite considerable.
After more than 4 months of constant attempts, Lin Mo had already gained a faint understanding of how to advance from the 1st stage, [Boiling Blood], to the next, deeper level.
Thinking of this, Lin Mo subconsciously raised his hand and pressed it lightly against the position of his heart on the left side of his chest.
Through his clothes and sternum, he could clearly feel the powerful beating of his heart.
Although his exploration of the 2nd stage was still far from complete, Lin Mo had already given it a name in advance.
The 2nd stage of Blood Burst was called [Heart Burning].
According to his deductions, as well as the occasional moments when he had luckily brushed against the threshold, if the effect of the 1st stage, [Boiling Blood], was mainly the stimulation and utilization of one's own qi and blood power, with the focus on strengthening, then the 2nd stage, [Heart Burning], would be a deeper application of qi and blood.
Its goal would be to project that power beyond the body, achieving the effect of blood and qi leaving the body.
At that point, Blood Burst would no longer be limited to internal physical enhancement. It would also be able to externalize blood and qi, and might even condense qi into form.
However, this process was destined to be long and difficult.
At least for the current Lin Mo, even while in the enhanced state of [Boiling Blood], being able to trigger the blood and qi externalization of [Heart Burning] was almost entirely dependent on luck.
Succeeding even once out of 10 attempts would already be considered remarkable.
And even that one success was usually only a faint trace of aura leaking out, far from being precisely controlled, much less applied in real combat.
There was still a very long distance between this and the day when he could stably control [Heart Burning] the same way he controlled [Boiling Blood], to the point where it could be recorded by his own status panel.
Even so, Lin Mo still felt gratified.
Because that meant he was walking on the correct path.
What remained was simply to invest enough time and effort to slowly figure it out.
