Because of Renji's sudden appearance, Haku was startled. His small body trembled slightly like a frightened rabbit.
"You can take my life, but please spare lord Zabuza. He still has dreams he must fulfill."
Haku picked up a kunai and struggled to stand while staring vigilantly at Renji.
His Chakra was already exhausted.
Even standing now was difficult.
If he forced himself to use Chakra again, he might die from exhaustion.
It would probably take two days to recover.
Right now, he had no way to resist someone like Renji.
He could only hope Renji would spare Zabuza.
"Is that so? Dying for someone important, that suggestion is interesting."
Renji stroked his chin as he crouched down and examined Haku closely.
Death.
Such a disgusting word.
Die for someone important?
Utterly foolish.
Only the living can achieve victory.
Haku spoke calmly, "Without ideals and without being needed by anyone, life was only pain. Lord Zabuza gave me purpose. He once said he needed my strength.
To fulfill his dream, I can become an emotionless tool, because he gave me a reason to exist."
Haku held the kunai with both hands and lowered his head slightly.
"Take my life. I beg you to spare Zabuza-sensei."
As long as he could protect the most important person to him, he was willing to become an emotionless tool.
He would even beg his enemy.
"What do I need your life for? Should I sell you to a brothel to make money? Someone would probably like that. People always have strange fetishes."
Renji knocked off Haku's mask and lifted his smooth chin, examining his delicate face carefully.
He really was adorable. If only he were a woman.
"You!" Haku stepped back in panic.
Sell him to a brothel? Just imagining it was terrifying.
Was Renji a demon?
"Let's play a game," Renji smiled slightly.
"I'll give you five days to recover. During that time, my students will grow stronger. After five days, they will fight the Demon of Kirigakure in a decisive battle.
After all, I am an excellent teacher, so I should give my students a chance to perform. If the Demon of Kirigakure loses, all of you will die."
Renji placed a hand lightly against Haku's neck as a faint strand of pale blue Chakra flowed from his fingertips.
A strange rune appeared on Haku's abdomen.
"What is this?" Haku asked cautiously.
"Don't think about escaping. I've already placed collars on you," Renji leaned closer and whispered near Haku's ear.
"As long as that mark exists, I can find you instantly no matter where you run."
"If lord Zabuza wins, will you let us go?" Haku's voice carried hesitation.
A decisive battle with Team 7 in five days? How could those children possibly defeat Zabuza?
And within only five days, what could really change?
"Do you have a choice?" Renji answered calmly.
"We accept your proposal," Haku's heart felt heavy.
Accepting meant living a few more days.
Refusing meant immediate death.
"You are a very good teacher. To help your students grow, you are willing to do this much. They must be very important to you."
Haku's legs gave out as he sat on the ground and hugged his knees while looking toward the unconscious Zabuza with a gentle smile.
"In any case, work hard. Maybe I'll let you go if I feel like it."
