Jenna woke to a pounding headache. It felt as though someone had driven a steel spike through her skull and left it there.
"...Ugh."
A groan escaped her lips as she squeezed her eyes shut again. Every heartbeat sent another wave of pain crashing through her temples.
"Host is awake."
Sys's childish voice drifted into her ears, calm and unhurried. He was no where in sight, but his voice made it to her anyway.
Jenna slowly pried one eye open.
The familiar sky stretched overhead. Soft blades of grass brushed against her cheek as the cool breeze carried the scent of fresh earth and the Fountain of Life.
She was back inside her space. Memory rushed back all at once — of the white fog that descended from the sky.
She pushed herself upright too quickly.
"Ah..."
The movement sent another stab of pain through her head, forcing her to clutch her forehead.
