Chapter 1 - Bound by no one

As Pei Yuning opened the car window, the morning breeze brushed against her mesmerizing, elegant face, carrying the subtle scent of confidence and quiet authority.

It had been seven years since she left Phoenix City for overseas, and now she had returned—a mature, radiant lady who commanded attention without even trying. Betrayed by her best friend and driven out of her father's house, her eyes now shone with a mixture of resolve and a quietly dangerous grace.

Soon, the cab stopped at the front of LX Hotel. Pei Yuning stepped out, her posture poised, her presence impossible to ignore. The two receptionists froze, caught off guard by the aura she exuded.

"Who does she think she is?" one whispered.

"I've never seen her before… she's definitely not from a noble family. What a show-off," the other sneered.

"Miss, can you show me your room card?" one receptionist asked, trying to mask their intimidation with disdain.

"Good morning. I don't have one with me," Yuning replied softly, her voice calm but carrying an underlying authority that made them hesitate.

The receptionist scoffed. "I knew it. Just a pretty face—how dare she barge in without a room card?"

Though it was normal for the receptionists to guard the hotel's prestige, Yuning's quiet composure made it clear: they had underestimated her.

"Jianxu didn't tell me I'd need a room card," she muttered under her breath, dialing a number.

"What act are you trying to put on? Our hotel is not for commoners," one receptionist said smugly.

"Let's see which prince charming is going to come save her today," the other added with a scornful smile.

Just then, the elevator doors opened, and a tall figure stepped out.

"Isn't that… the Chairman?" one whispered.

"Who's so special that the Chairman has to greet him personally?"

Mo Jianxu approached, his usual cold expression softening instantly at the sight of Yuning.

"Ningning, you're here," he said, his voice warm, almost reverent.

"Mr. Mo… how do you know this flower face?" the receptionists stammered, shocked.

Ignoring them, Jianxu went straight to collect Pei Yuning's luggage.

"Jianxu, is this how your staff treats your guests?" Yuning asked, pressing her phone, her tone calm but carrying the weight of command.

Jianxu shot the two receptionists a death glare before turning back to Yuning with a warm smile.

"Ningning, don't mind them. I'll take care of everything," he said.

Turning to the receptionists, he said firmly, "You're both fired, effective immediately."

The first receptionist gasped. "Chairman, you can't just fire us over this!"

"I'm sorry, Young Madam. Please don't mind us. We didn't mean anything by it," the other stammered.

"Security, escort them out. Make sure no hotel in Phoenix City hires them again!" Jianxu commanded.

Yuning allowed herself a small, composed smile. She did not need to raise her voice; the quiet authority she carried spoke for itself.

"Ningning, you're finally back! It's been too long—we have so much to catch up on. I can't wait to show you around Phoenix City," Mo Jianxu said, pouting like a kid.

The usually cold Chairman of Mo Corporation could be so gentle and upright in front of one lady—it was almost unbelievable.

"I have a lot to catch up on, dude," Pei Yuning said playfully, wrapping her arm around his neck, her aura leaving no doubt: she had returned, and nothing would stop her now.

As they walked inside, Yuning's phone vibrated. She glanced at the screen and froze. A single message flashed:

"You think you've returned unnoticed… but someone has been watching. Be careful, Ningning."

Her heart skipped a beat—but the faint curve of her lips suggested she welcomed the challenge.
