The first light of dawn began to crack over the horizon. The ocean shifted into a dull, heavy grey. Thick, low-hanging mist blanketed the cliffside, swallowing the house in a ghostly chill.
It should have been a tranquil morning. If not for the deafening roar of heavy engines rapidly approaching.
VROOOOOM... SCREECH!
The screech of heavy tires tearing into the dirt road echoed right in front of the house. It wasn't just one vehicle. There were at least three.
Ren and Yurin, crouched in the darkness, instantly locked eyes. Yurin's entire body shuddered. He pressed himself tightly against Ren's broad back, seeking the only anchor he had left.
"They're here," Ren whispered.
CRASH!!!
The front door was kicked off its hinges, splintered! Powered flashlight beams swept the room, slicing through the darkness of the front hall.
Heavily armed men in black gear poured in with arrogant confidence. They were certain of their overwhelming numbers.
