Just as Link curiously stepped into the Treasure Cafe, a Mew, using its psychic powers, surrounded the menu, ingredients, and dishes like an asteroid belt around itself, welcoming the guest.
"A human..."
"It's been a long time since a human has appeared here."
"Didn't they say humans had forgotten about this place?"
"It looks like a Fighting/Psychic type, no, is it Psychic/Water type?"
"Humans have types?"
"How novel! I've even seen humans unleash shockwaves."
The Pokémon whispered among themselves, and to Link's surprise, he could understand their words directly, as if their voices had been translated into his native language.
What an incredible place! Is this also a characteristic of dreams?
"Hello, I'm Link. I accidentally wandered into this place while sleeping. Do you know where this is?"
Link looked at Mew, hoping to get an answer from it.
However, Mew laughed and said, "I am Mew~Krillin. This is the Dream Realm, and no one can stray here by mistake. Only those who know this place, possess a certain level of spiritual power, and have a strong craving before falling asleep can arrive in a peaceful sleep and stay for one hour."
In short, this is a haven composed of the dreams of countless people and Pokémon, and a place where one can find inspiration and fulfill wishes.
Link, of course, knew about this place (PDW).
The Pokèmon Dream World is an online virtual world officially released outside the games during the fifth generation of Pokémon. Players can manage their own islands here, travel to places like the Little Forest, the Vast Sky, the Kind Ocean, and the Pokémon Cafe to play and make friends with different Pokémon, and bring Pokémon to the real world at the Dream Tree at the end of this world.
All Pokémon brought to the real world from this Dream World will gain a hidden ability added in the fifth generation, which is the origin of the term "Hidden Ability."
During the operation of Pokémon Dreamworld, Game Freak held 16 events, distributing Pokémon such as the Eevee family and starter Pokémon from various generations.
These included even a level 100 Arceus with the "Multi-Type" ability, which remains the only legal way to obtain Arceus from a Dream Ball.
Unfortunately, Pokémon Dreamworld ceased operation in 2014, and Link rarely logged in until the very end.
But this Dreamworld was certainly different from the one he knew—it was much more lively.
"I see," Link remarked. "What an amazing coincidence."
He wouldn't have been able to enter if any one condition was missing.
Mew smiled, clearly also intrigued by the absence of humans.
But as a café employee, he stopped chatting and handed over the menu.
"Let's order the 'Snorlax Big Satisfaction Burger with Rice'… the portion size is for a human. By the way, is it really okay that all these dishes are Pokémon-shaped?"
Link wasn't quite sure either, but it was like a five-star chef serving up food that looked like a bunch of celebrity headshots – it was just awful.
"Of course it's fine, because they look cute~"
Mew didn't seem to care. There are clear predator-prey relationships and food chains among Pokémon, even though it's a vegetarian.
However, the Dream Realm is a peaceful and warm place, where all forms of violence are forbidden.
Link scratched his head, unsure how to comment.
"By the way, I might not have any money. Is the currency still Pokémon Dollars?"
"It's free, and what you eat isn't a physical object, so you don't have to worry about gaining weight!"
Hearing this, he breathed a sigh of relief. Earning money in a dream would be too much.
But since he had received such service, he had to show his appreciation.
So he took out a Starf Berry he had just picked from a tree and handed it to Mew: "Here, take this. Remember to thank the chef for me."
"Mew~"
Mew took the Star Berry and placed it in the "asteroid belt" surrounding it.
The Star Berry has five flavors, and each taste randomly combines to create new flavors and textures. This never-ending sense of surprise never gets old, no matter how many years pass.
Watching Mew's graceful flight, Link sensed it was quite happy.
But then again, only those with a strong craving before sleep can reach this place, but what exactly did he ask for?
His thoughts were too cluttered then, and he couldn't quite remember.
So, while waiting for his meal, he observed his surroundings, curiously listening to the Pokémon's conversation.
Ralts lamented its desire to evolve into Gallade, but its gender was destined to be hopeless.
Gloom complained about being avoided by everyone in reality.
Lugia complained about its child always running around.
Treecko discussed how it disliked its trainer for looking down on it as a Special Attacker but always engaging in melee combat, so it released him.
Zorua accused its trainer of bringing home other dogs and foxes all the time.
Shelmet said it didn't want to sleep on its left side anymore, it was really boring. Poliwag
boasted that it had recently used "Hypnosis," "Brute Force," and "Ice Beam" to single-handedly defeat Zekrom, then tanked a "Clash of Flames" from Kyurem, and finally used "Brute Force" to bring Kyurem to its knees before being defeated by "Freeze-Dry."
Snorlax was sleepy, so it lay down and fell asleep, even in its dream world!
Duraludon boasted that it had defeated Tyranitar again today, proving that late bloomers are indeed remarkable.
"Looks like Pokémon's daily lives are quite colorful," Link sighed.
Not long after, Mew delivered the Snorlax Mega Burger with Rice he had ordered. The portion was indeed large, but fortunately, it wasn't too much for a boy of this age.
"Link, you must have a wish to come to the Dreamland, right?"
Mew, unusually cheerful, revealed the secret of this world: "As long as you start from the Rainbow Bridge on the main island and think of the place you want to go, the rainbow will take you there."
"What a convenient feature, thank you, Mew. I'll come find you again next time."
Mew nodded: "Hurry up, you can only stay here for an hour. You should be waking up soon."
Realizing the urgency of time, Link subconsciously looked back at the clock in the cafe and realized that he had unknowingly stayed for nearly twenty minutes.
So he quickly finished his meal, said goodbye to Mew, and climbed the Rainbow Bridge along the way he came.
A moment later, the rainbow transported Link to a misty, solid land.
It looked somewhat like a large battle arena.
Just then, a mysterious voice suddenly rang out:
"This is where you conduct Dream Sky Battles, where you can increase your strength at a cheat-like speed while you're asleep.
"Here, you will randomly encounter all kinds of Pokémon, engage in high-intensity battles, and receive rewards based on the number of wins."
"Let's begin, Mythical Battle!"
The words had barely left his lips when the mist coalesced, forming a ferocious, three-meter-tall Scizor.
Link instinctively reached for his waist, but found no Poké Ball.
Wait, wait, wait, wait!!!
"Huh? I'm fighting Scizor? Really!?"
Link took off running!
