Deep space. The refugee ship.

The vessel hadn't even finished cooling from Asgard's destruction before a shadow swallowed it whole.

Sanctuary II. A warship so vast it had its own gravitational pull — an interstellar predator that opened its mouth and locked onto the fragile refugee ship with the casual certainty of something that had done this a thousand times.

BOOM—!!

No negotiation. No warning. Dark purple beams punched through the shields like paper. Alarms screamed. Fire reflected in the faces of every Asgardian civilian who'd just survived the end of their world.

"EVERYONE BACK! Protect the civilians!"

Thor — one-eyed, battered, running on willpower and regal fury — stood at the front with a scavenged iron rod. Heimdall gripped Hofund. Valkyrie drew Dragonfang. Even Loki had his daggers out, expression wound tight as a coiled spring.

Crunch.

Jake leaned against the cockpit console, tearing open a bag of potato chips — "strategic supplies" from Gwen. He chewed one and spoke through the crumbs.

"Rude neighbors. Forced demolition without even knocking."

Heavy footsteps. Smoke clearing. Four figures — each radiating an aura that made the air feel heavier — stepped over Asgardian bodies into the ship.

At their head: tall, thin, face the color of a corpse. Ebony Maw.

He stepped delicately over the debris, hands clasped behind his back, and began his sermon in a voice that belonged in an opera house:

"Hear me, and rejoice. You have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Titan, Thanos. You may think this is suffering. No — it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Though your bodies perish, your spirits shall become Children of Than—"

Crunch, crunch.

The chewing was extremely loud in the solemn silence.

Maw's gray face twitched. He stopped mid-word. Cold eyes found the source.

Jake poured the last crumbs into his mouth, clapped his hands clean, and looked at Maw with perfect innocence. "Sorry — keep going. What comes after 'Children of Thanos'? Do you add an 'Amen' at the end, or...?"

"Ignorant ant." Maw raised a hand, telekinetic force coiling. "Your tongue is superfluous."

"Enough."

A voice — deep, heavy, carrying its own reverb as if the universe amplified it out of respect or fear — spoke from behind.

The Black Order parted.

He was over eight feet tall. Muscles carved from purple granite. Golden half-armor. And on his left hand — a golden gauntlet, with a single stone embedded below the thumb. Purple. Pulsing. Radiating energy that made the Omnitrix's sensors scream.

Thanos.

He ignored Jake entirely. His gaze swept the room and settled on Loki.

"The Second Prince of Asgard." The voice was terrifyingly calm. "I know you have it. The Tesseract. Hand it over, and I may consider leaving your brother's corpse intact."

Purple energy surged. Thor was lifted into the air — choking, struggling, helpless. Post-awakening exhaustion and the Power Stone's suppression left him with nothing.

"STOP!" Loki's face went white. His dagger trembled.

"So this is the Overlord of the Universe."

Jake stepped forward. Put himself between Loki and Thanos. Looked the Mad Titan up and down with the particular scrutiny of someone evaluating a used car.

"Gwen — scan results?"

In his mind, Gwen's voice carried weight he'd never heard from her before: "Complete. The purple stone is the Power Stone. Energy readings are beyond anything in our database. Jake — that thing can destroy a planet casually. Moon base defenses warming up. Ready for support on your word."

"Copy."

Jake looked back at Thanos. The familiar grin spread.

"Hey. You. Purple Sweet Potato Spirit."

Dead silence.

Even Thor — mid-choking — forgot to struggle. One good eye staring. Sweet... potato spirit?

On Thanos's granite face, the faintest furrow appeared between his brows. In all his millennia traversing the cosmos — demon, tyrant, madman, butcher, inevitable — he had been called many things.

"Sweet potato spirit" was a first.

"Child." Thanos looked at Jake with the indifference reserved for things about to stop existing. "In this universe, arrogance carries a price."

"A price?"

Jake raised his left hand. The Omnitrix blazed green.

"I've got two friends who are also pretty arrogant. They're doing just fine. Know why?"

His finger found the dial.

"Because we have the capital."

SLAP!

Green light erupted.

Black conductive skin. White circuit-stripes on face, chest, and limbs. Two long plug-antennae sweeping backward from his head. Fingertips ending in golden conductor plugs. A single eye blazing white.

Feedback. Conductoid. The energy vampire of the Omnitrix.

"What is this creature?!" Cull Obsidian — the Black Order's bruiser — roared and swung a chain-hammer the size of a small car. "KNEEL before the Titan!!"

"Get lost, big guy."

Feedback didn't look. One finger extended. One bolt of golden current.

ZZT—BOOM!!

The chain-hammer shattered. The recoil launched Cull Obsidian backward into the ship's hull — embedded so deep in the metal that extracting him would require cutting tools.

"Interesting."

Thanos finally focused. He released Thor — who dropped, gasping — and raised the gauntlet.

HUM—

The Power Stone ignited. Space warped around his fist. Purple light built to a intensity that hurt to look at.

"Let's see how much you can take."

BOOM!!

A beam of world-ending purple energy — carrying enough force to crack a planet's crust — lanced directly at Feedback.

"JAKE, LOOK OUT!!" Thor and Loki shouted simultaneously. That blast would vaporize the ship. Everyone inside. Everything.

Feedback didn't dodge.

He opened his arms. Wide. Like welcoming home something he'd been waiting for.

"BRING IT ON!!"

The antennae on his head and the plug on his tail locked onto the incoming beam.

ENERGY ABSORPTION.

BOOOOM!!!

The purple beam hit Feedback dead center — and vanished. Not deflected. Not dispersed. Consumed. Feedback's black body became a bottomless well, drinking the Power Stone's output with the desperate thirst of a species that had evolved for exactly this purpose.

The white stripes on his body shifted — from white to blazing purple. Infinity Stone energy coursed through him, filling every conductor pathway, pushing his reserves past anything he'd ever held.

[High-dimensional energy detected: Infinity Stone — Power.]

[Energy saturation: 200%... 300%...]

"Tastes good. Little spicy."

Feedback's single eye fixed on Thanos. On the black face — a grin. Ferocious. Fanatical. The expression of someone who'd just eaten a god's weapon and was about to spit it back.

He raised both hands. Ten conductor-tipped fingers aimed at the Titan.

"As the saying goes — it's rude not to return a favor."

"This move is called — Peeling Off Your Sweet Potato Skin!"

BOOOOOM—!!!!

The absorbed Power Stone energy — amplified through Conductoid biology, doubled in intensity — erupted from Feedback's hands as a purple lightning bolt twice as thick as what Thanos had fired.

World-destroying force. Aimed point-blank at the Mad Titan.

Every light on the refugee ship died.

Only the purple radiance — reflected off Thanos's widening eyes — illuminated deep space.
