The next morning, I woke up to a smell of burnt toast.
And her sitting at my desk, calmly folding my clothes.
"Seriously?" I groaned. "You can't even use your powers, and you're organizing my laundry?"
She looked up, eyes flashing.
"Discipline is important," she said. "Even for targets."
I stared.
Target? Really? I was her target, and she was folding my socks.
School felt normal at first. I thought maybe she'd stay hidden, blend in.
Ha. Ha. Ha.
As soon as we got to the school courtyard, she saw another student practicing martial arts. Her eyes lit up like a predator spotting prey.
"Come on," she said, grabbing my sleeve. "We must train immediately."
I yanked my sleeve back. "TRAIN? I can barely survive gym class!"
But she was insistent. Before I knew it, we were in an empty classroom practicing "combat moves."
Her punches… were terrifying, even without powers.
My punches… looked like I was trying to shoo a fly.
She sighed dramatically.
"Pathetic. How does your world allow this weakling to live?"
I ducked — too late. She tapped my shoulder with lightning speed.
"Okay… okay! I surrender! You're clearly better than me," I gasped, rubbing my sore shoulder.
She stared at me like I was joking.
"You will need more than surrender," she muttered. "If the Dark Sovereign awakens fully, he will not hesitate."
Wait. Dark Sovereign? She's still calling me that?
Then, disaster struck.
She tried to summon fire for a "training exercise."
Boom. Smoke. Alarm. Fire sprinklers. Water everywhere.
And me… standing in soaked school uniform, slipping and sliding like a cartoon.
She groaned. "Your world's fire control is primitive. This is unacceptable."
I… couldn't stop laughing.
This was officially the most ridiculous morning of my life.
But then she looked at me, eyes softer this time.
"Why are you laughing?" she asked, genuinely confused.
"I don't know," I admitted. "Maybe… because even with all this chaos… you're kind of… human?"
Her lips twitched. Almost a smile.
Then she glared again.
"Do not mistake my patience for weakness. You are my target."
I shrugged. "Noted. Just… don't burn the gym next time?"
By the end of the day, we were drenched, exhausted, and covered in fire extinguisher foam.
And yet… I couldn't help feeling a strange warmth whenever she looked my way.
Enemy? Assassin? Future destroyer of the world?
Yeah… I was starting to suspect that she was also the reason I didn't want anyone else near me.
And that… scared me more than her fire ever could.
To be continued… 🔥
