Arthur woke up to the sound of wheels on frozen dirt and no memory of how he got there.
He was lying across a bench seat with his coat balled up under his head, and the first thing he registered was how much everything hurt. The second thing was Roz, sitting on his chest, watching him with both ears forward.
"You're awake," Roz said. "Good. Don't move yet."
"What happened."
"You don't remember."
It wasn't a question. Arthur stared at the carriage ceiling and tried to find the gap in his own memory and came up with nothing. Soltice's hand coming up. Then black. Then this.
'You went full Retrograde,' Vexis said, quieter than usual. 'You weren't steering. I was there the whole time and even I only caught pieces of it.'
What pieces.
'You killed Soltice. And Harren.' A pause. 'With your hand. Not the sword.'
Arthur sat up too fast and regretted it immediately.
