Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Wish Granted

I stared at the man for a moment. The man looked to be in his late 80s, with white hair and a long goatee. He had a purple cloak draped over his left arm which covered his white tunic, which had gold accents. His pants were similar, mainly white with gold accents. His crown was golden with colorful gems embedded into it.

Beside him was a young woman, seemingly in her 20s with her eyes shut close. She wore a much simpler purple dress with gold accents and bore a tiara on her head with the same gems as the man's.

Aside from that, the first thing I notice is that most of my fat is gone. My stomach, while still a little pudgy, is no longer bulging through my clothes and my neck no longer feels like I constantly have a scarf on. It feels... great. I feel so much more mobile, I feel-

"Heroes!" the man shouted, suddenly standing up and cutting off my train of thought. "I am Alexander Diyte, King of this Kingdom, and I have summoned the thr- the four of you to assist this holy kingdom in defeating the Demon King!"

At the king's exclamation, I looked around and, sure enough, ignoring the white robed individuals around me, there were five other people in modern clothing.

We were standing inside a big circle that was glowing gold, with a diagram similar to what those black lines drew.

"Where are we!? Who are you!?"

I turned my head to the source of the shout, and saw a teen looking around my age. He had his arms spread out, shielding a woman behind him.

"Please calm down, dear Hero. You are in Diyte, the Holy Kingdom." the King explained, trying to placate the boy. "I understand that this is very jarring to you. Your past world didn't have magic, did it?"

The king lifted his index finger and began drawing in the air. Where his finger went, a glowing line floated. He first drew a circle, then started forming a diagram within it. Once done, he dropped his hand to his side and from the diagram- the magic circle, a pillar of flame spouted out.

We stepped back in shock. I heard someone gasp. It was an understandable reaction, I couldn't believe my eyes either.

The King began speaking.

"I'm not the most talented magician there is, I spent most of my life studying the sword after all. However, you Heroes have been summoned to this world through the power of Obrum, and as such, will have wonderfully powerful God-given gifts! These gifts will allow you to understand magic like a duck takes to water and we hope you may use these gifts to serve Obrum and help us defeat the Demon King!"

The soldiers around the room clapped, as did the robed men and the Princess.

We were speechless. I had so many questions, but I didn't dare ask, so I just stood and stared.

The applause faded after a while, and the King cleared his throat before speaking.

"Now, my daughter here was blessed with a special gift at birth. She has the ability to see and awaken Holy Talents!" The King took his daughter's hand and slowly climbed down the stairs. "Could you Heroes please line up for her to check your Talents?"

First, the teen and the girl he was protecting. The boy went first. The Princess peeked open her left eye, bright yellow eyes shining through the tiny gap between her eyelids. She then took the teen's hand and drew a symbol on it.

"Ah..! How blessed we are. Dearest Hero, you are earnest and righteous. You do not hesitate to help protect those in need. Your Holy Talent is [Hand of God]. If you wish to learn more, simply place your hand on this sigil and think 'System'. Please, may I know your name?"

I could see the teen holding back a smile as he replied,

"My name's Yong Gan (勇敢)!"

The Princess let out a soft laugh at that, before moving on to the rest of us.

The girl hiding behind the teen was named Miyako and her Talent was called [Shrine Keeper]. She was 'sweet and kind'.

Then, a middle aged man. His name was Zander. His talent was [Commanding Loyalty]. He was 'strict and loyal'.

And me. She walked up to me and took my hand. When she peeked out her eye, however, she seemed to jerk back in, what I presume to be, shock. She quickly grabbed my hand and scribbled down the sigil in a hasty, almost panicked manner. She stared at it for a moment, before backing away.

She went to whisper something to the King. It must not be good news, as he looks shaken.

"Well then, dear Heroes! You lot look tired. Guards, escort them to their rooms."

As the King says this, I notice the Princess speaking to a few guards, but I didn't think much of it and followed the guards to my room.

The guards led us to a hallway with many doors and let the others in one by one until I was the only one left.

"Come with me," one of them said, "The King wishes to speak with you."
