Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE

In the city of Tenebrous, where shadows danced like living darkness.

Crime and corruption reigned supreme.

Ava Morales, a 25-year-old former cop, turned private investigator after her partner's murder.

Ava's office was a smoky room above a jazz club in the red district. One rainy night, a mysterious woman named Samantha Taylor entered.

"My sister, Lily, is missing. Police say she left town, but I know she'd never leave me behind."

Ava noticed Samantha's trembling hands and the fear in her eyes. She decided to take the case.

Ava started investigating Lily's disappearance by questioning her coworkers at the local nightclub, Eclipse.

She entered the club through the back door, avoiding the bouncer's curious gaze.

Inside, she found the manager, Rachel, in her office.

"Lily was a good girl, always on time and friendly with customers. But she seemed nervous lately, like she was hiding something."

Ava thanked Rachel and asked to speak with Lily's closest co-worker, a bartender named Lito.

Lito leaned in close, voice low.

"Lily was acting weird her last night here... kept glancing at the VIP room like she was waiting for someone. Then she left abruptly around midnight." Ava's eyes narrowed.

Ava decided to investigate the VIP room.

She flashed her PI badge to the bouncer guarding the door.

He stepped aside, eyeing her warily.

Inside the VIP room, Ava found

* A lavish lounge with plush couches

* A bar serving top-shelf liquor

* A private dance floor

But what caught her attention was

* A symbol etched into the wall of

a snake eating its own tail.

Suddenly, a voice behind her said;

"Welcome, Ava Morales.

We've been expecting you."

Ava spun around. A tall, dark-haired man stood there.

"Who is he?"

He introduced himself as Victor Vex, the club's owner.

Victor Vex, the club's owner, stood confidently, his piercing green eyes fixed on Ava.

He gestured to a couch, inviting her to sit.

Ava remained standing, her gaze sweeping the room once more before focusing on Victor.

"So, Mr. Vex, what can you tell me about Lily Taylor's disappearance?"

Victor sighed, steepling his fingers together.

"Lily was a valued employee. Her disappearance concerns me deeply.

However, I know nothing about her vanishing.

She finished her shift and left or so my staff claimed."

Ava sensed a hint of deception in his tone.

She pressed on, "Can I review your security footage from that night?"

Victor nodded.

"My head of security will provide you access. But first, let me ask, what makes you think something sinister happened to Lily?"

Ava hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. Then she said,

"Lily's sister believes she was hiding something. I aim to uncover what that was."

Victor's expression turned thoughtful.

After a moment, he said, "I see. Well, Ava Morales, I'll help you find answers if you help me with something in return."

Ava's eyes narrowed slightly, sensing a trap or hidden agenda.

"What do you need help with, Mr. Vex?"

Victor leaned forward, his voice taking on a serious tone.

"One of my business partners has gone missing too.

'Marcus Black' he handles... delicate matters for me.

His disappearance threatens my interests."

Ava raised an eyebrow,

"Another missing person connected to your club.

This isn't a coincidence, is it?"

Victor shrugged,

"Perhaps not.

But I believe their disappearances are unrelated...

yet equally troubling.

Find Marcus, and I'll give you full access to everything including Lily's last night here."

Ava considered the offer. It could lead to answers about Lily. But working with Victor Vex came with risks.

Suddenly, her phone buzzed, a text from an unknown number:

"Don't trust Victor Vex. Meet me outside if you want truth."

Ava's heart skipped a beat as she read the mysterious text. She looked up at Victor, trying to gauge his reaction,

but his expression remained neutral.

Ava decided to play along, for now.

"Alright, Mr. Vex.

I'll find Marcus Black.

But if I discover you're hiding anything... our deal ends, and I'll make sure everyone knows about your club's shady activities."

Victor smiled.

"Fair enough, Ava Morales.

My head of security, Mike Davis,

will brief you on Marcus's last known whereabouts."

Ava nodded, then turned to leave,

but glanced back at Victor, sensing she was missing something.

Once outside, Ava looked around cautiously, then spotted a figure in the shadows.

The figure stepped forward, it was Rachel, the club's manager!

Rachel glanced nervously around before focusing on Ava.

"Lily confided in me about strange occurrences at Eclipse.

She suspected something illegal was happening in the VIP room."

Ava's eyes locked onto Rachel's.

"What kind of illegal activity?"

Rachel leaned in closer, voice barely above whisper.

"Drugs, prostitution... and worse.

Lily stumbled upon a hidden room deep in the club.

She never told me what she saw there, but she was terrified."

Ava's grip on her notebook tightened.

Did Lily discover the same symbol Ava found in the VIP room?

Rachel continued,

"After Lily vanished, I noticed strange men lurking around her apartment.

I think they're watching me too now."

Suddenly, Rachel grabbed Ava's arm.

"We need to get out of here now.

I think we're being watched."

Ava quickly scanned their surroundings, the alley was empty, but she sensed eyes on them.

Ava and Rachel quickly left the alley,

ending up at Ava's office. Rachel explained further,

"Lily discovered a hidden room beneath Eclipse. She mentioned strange rituals and symbols. A snake eating its own tail, just like the one you found in the VIP room."

Ava's eyes widened,

"This symbol is linked to an ancient cult thought to be extinct.

They worshipped a powerful entity

known only as 'The Devourer.'" Rachel shuddered.

"Lily feared they're still active and she stumbled upon their secret."

Suddenly, Ava's phone rang ,an unknown number again.

Ava answered, listening briefly before hanging up.
