Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Upgrading, Do Not Disturb

A magical riot, typically occurring in underage wizards, can be understood as a leakage of magic caused by a vessel that is not yet strong enough to contain it.

This kind of leakage is not controlled by the wizard's own will and can even cause the young wizard to briefly lose their autonomy during the episode.

And the Kate before them was obviously in a state of magical loss of control.

Everything within the room was swept up and torn apart by the storm formed from the leaking magic. The entire house shook, seemingly ready to collapse at any moment.

Above the roof, dark clouds were attracted and gathered by some mysterious force. A thick bolt of lightning, accompanied by booming thunder, tore through the pitch-black night and crashed down from the distant sky.

Lightning fell like rain, smashing into the house, causing everything inside the entire building to tremble violently.

Swept up by the storm, the furnishings inside the room were reduced to countless scattered fragments.

Wherever the naked eye looked, the air was filled with a terrifying aura.

Amidst the storm, Dumbledore stood in front of Rand, looking up in disbelief at the tiny figure situated at the eye of the storm.

This was not something an ordinary little wizard's magical riot could trigger!

He stared at Kate's figure, waving the wand in his hand.

"Protego!"

"Incarcerous!"

Two spells were fired in succession. An iron-clad shield instantly protected Kate's location, perfectly blocking a wooden plank that was flying straight toward her.

Immediately afterward, a rope materialized from the tip of his wand, binding Kate within the storm.

Rand hurriedly stepped forward, his wand flashing as he moved aside everything obstructing his path.

Behind him, Dumbledore waved his wand lightly with a grave expression, and only then did the storm in the room gradually cease.

"Miss..."

Reaching out to catch Kate, who had fallen completely unconscious, Rand half-knelt on the ground, his brow deeply furrowed.

"Apologies," Dumbledore walked forward slowly. "I did not anticipate that she would have such a massive emotional fluctuation after learning the cause of her parents' death."

As he spoke, he used the Mending Charm to restore everything that had been messed up to its original state.

Finally, he leaned down and squatted in front of him.

"Rand, the magic within her is too unusual. Even an ordinary adult wizard would not possess such colossal power."

Lightning on the horizon tore through the firmament, illuminating the faces of the three people in the dim room with stark clarity.

The old butler, who was always impeccably dressed, held his Young Miss, his back hunched like a curled-up shrimp.

Dumbledore looked up at the dark clouds outside the window that had still not dispersed. He seemed to think of something from a long time ago, and a hint of pain flashed through his azure eyes.

"Do you remember that I once had a sister?" he asked in a low voice.

Rand, who had been motionless while holding Kate, suddenly trembled.

Young people today might no longer know about the past belonging to the Legendary Wizard Dumbledore.

But as someone of the older generation, as Dumbledore's faithful comrade-in-arms from the past, Rand knew very well what he was referring to.

Ariana, Dumbledore's younger sister, had also unfortunately passed away at such a young age because her magic went out of control.

With Dumbledore bringing up these dust-laden memories now, Rand naturally understood his meaning.

If Kate did not learn magic, as she grew older, her magic would naturally increase and become increasingly difficult to control.

Perhaps one day, a sudden magical riot would cost her her life.

Perhaps there was something even worse than that; long-term suppression of magic could potentially manifest an Obscurus.

That was an entity of powerful but extremely unstable dark magic, difficult to control, capable of moving at high speeds, and able to detach from the host to attack others.

Whichever it was, Kate's future was pitch black.

Carefully placing Kate onto the bed, Rand looked at the lingering dark clouds outside, his face also clouded with gloom.

"But the Young Miss is afraid of the magical world. She fears that place which swallowed up all her relatives."

An eleven-year-old child who, since she became sensible, had long endured loneliness and solitude, and also bore the fear that someone might come to hunt her down at any moment.

It wasn't that the old butler hadn't wanted to ease her emotions over the years, but facing a pitiful child who was ignorant of worldly matters and whose parents were both dead, what could he say?

Slowly turning around, Rand looked directly into Dumbledore's eyes. "Young Master Elphias and Young Mistress Grace entrusted me to protect her well before they passed away. I must fulfill my promise."

Dumbledore's gaze flickered slightly. He looked gently at the girl sleeping on the bed and sighed softly.

"But you cannot protect her for a lifetime. She will eventually have to return to the crowd."

"Hogwarts has her peers. Only there can she soothe the pain and fear in her heart."

"This is Kate's chance. You should be clear on this, are you not?"

Actually, without him saying it, Rand himself was very clear that these were problems Kate had to face.

But...

He was still very uncertain whether this child, whom he had watched over since she was small and who was emotionally almost like a granddaughter to him, could really go to a strange place all alone.

"Albus, even if Miss Kate agrees to enroll, you saw it yourself. The magical riot in her is extraordinary."

He paused, his gaze fixed firmly on the other man.

"Can you guarantee that she won't have a magical riot at school and hurt other students?"

"Even if you are there and she doesn't hurt anyone else, can you guarantee that other students won't alienate her because of her peculiarities, causing her further harm?"

"It's not just these things. Once an accident happens with Kate, the emotions of other students' parents will also be ignited. How will you handle all of that when the time comes?"

He had to protect Kate. Even if his heart had already been shaken by Dumbledore's persuasion, he had to prepare for the worst-case scenario in advance.

Dumbledore revealed a trace of a smile. "I can guarantee to you that Hogwarts has the best teachers to help her."

The magic within Kate was indeed massive, but he had seen one or two examples like this in his many years of teaching.

At most, Kate's magic was just a bit excessively large.

Fortunately, these were all solvable issues; he would just need to ask Severus to go to some extra trouble.

Rand's expression only then softened slightly. "I will ask for the Young Miss's opinion on this matter tomorrow."

Although he unilaterally trusted Dumbledore a great deal, the final power of decision still lay in Kate's hands.

"Good. Then I shall await your news." Dumbledore nodded slightly, took one extra look at the little person sleeping soundly on the bed, turned around, and vanished into thin air.

And Kate, who was still asleep, was completely unaware of this entire conversation.

The only sound that could transmit into her mind was the mechanical voice of the system.
