Chapter 14 - CHAPTER 14: BECOMING A LICENSED HUNTER

The process of becoming a licensed Hunter involved more than just passing the exam. It required registering with the Hunter Association, receiving official documentation, and taking on the responsibilities that came with the title. But for Dean, these practical matters were less important than the symbolic significance of the achievement.

He was no longer the defective twin. He was no longer bound by the Zoldyck family's expectations. He was a Hunter—a professional who pursued their own goals, who answered to their own code of conduct, who used their power according to their own principles.

The Hunter Association headquarters was an impressive building, located in the heart of a major city. It was filled with Hunters of all types and experience levels, all coming and going on various missions and assignments. Dean walked through the halls with a sense of wonder, observing the different Hunters, noting the variety of techniques and abilities on display.

As he completed the registration process, the official who was processing his paperwork looked up at him with interest.

"Dean Zoldyck," the official said, reading from the form. "That's an interesting name. Are you related to the Zoldyck family of assassins?"

Dean hesitated for a moment before answering. He had considered using a different name to hide his connection to the family, but he had decided against it. He wasn't ashamed of where he came from. He was simply choosing a different path.

"I am," Dean said. "But I'm no longer part of that organization. I'm forging my own path as a Hunter."

The official nodded, seemingly unsurprised. "That happens sometimes. Talented individuals from powerful families choose to go their own way. It usually works out well for them. Welcome to the Hunter Association, Mr. Zoldyck. We're glad to have you."

Dean received his official Hunter License—a small card with his photograph and credentials. It was a simple object, but it represented something profound: his freedom, his independence, his right to pursue his own goals without answering to anyone but himself.

That evening, Dean went to a quiet bar and ordered a drink. He sat alone, reflecting on how far he had come. Just a few months ago, he had been living in the Zoldyck mansion, training under his father's watchful eye, struggling against the constraints of the family's philosophy. Now, he was a licensed Hunter, free to pursue his own path, capable of making his own choices.

But he also knew that this was just the beginning. There was so much more he wanted to achieve, so much more he wanted to learn, so much more he wanted to become. The Hunter Exam had been a first step, but there were many more steps ahead.

And somewhere out there, Greed Island was waiting for him.
