Alina's POV
"Is there any way you can get it out of him?" The words rushed out of me, born from sheer, unadulterated panic. My throat ached as I stared at the doctor.
"There is really nothing we can do," he replied. The finality in his voice made my heart misfire, hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs. "It's a rare, highly illegal toxin. It was designed specifically to destroy an Alpha's system from the inside out. I am truly sorry, Alina, but medical science cannot help him."
"No, doctor! I am sure there is something you can do!" I cried, terror tearing through my voice. I took a step closer, the tears finally spilling over and scalding my cheeks. "You just have to look harder! Find something! Anything!"
"I am really sorry," he repeated, his face a mask of defeat as he turned around and began packing his instruments back into his medical bag.
"Wait—what are you doing? You really can't just leave him like this!" The room felt like it was spinning.
