Haru's entire body trembled uncontrollably.
The tiger standing before him was enormous—far bigger than anything he had ever imagined. Its massive frame blocked the narrow cave path, its striped muscles rippling under the dim light. Two burning red eyes stared directly into his soul.
Haru's breathing became shallow.
He slowly stepped back until his legs hit a rough stone behind him, and he collapsed onto it, gasping. His chest tightened with fear.
What do I do…?
He glanced upward toward the ledge from where he had fallen. The distance was impossible. The cliff wall was too steep to climb, and even if he tried—
The tiger was still there.
Waiting.
Watching.
Haru's mind spun in confusion and terror.
Suddenly—
CRACK!
The rock beneath him shattered.
"Ah—!"
The ground collapsed and Haru fell through the darkness. His body slammed into the cave floor with a heavy impact that knocked the air out of his lungs.
Dust rose around him.
When he lifted his head slowly…
Those same glowing red eyes were right in front of him.
The tiger had followed him down.
Fear exploded through Haru's chest. He scrambled backward, his hands shaking violently as he tried to crawl away.
The tiger stepped forward slowly, its massive paws echoing through the cave.
Then—
ROAR!
It lunged.
Haru screamed and rolled to the side just as its claws smashed into the ground where he had been. Rocks shattered from the impact.
He ran.
Blindly.
His heart pounded like thunder as he rushed through the narrow cave passages. The tiger chased him relentlessly, its heavy footsteps shaking the ground.
Another swipe.
Haru barely dodged, stumbling against the cave wall.
"Please… please…!" he whispered through trembling breaths.
But the tiger was faster.
As Haru tried to run again, his foot slipped on loose gravel.
He fell.
In that moment—
SLASH!
The tiger's claws tore across his back.
"AAAHHH!!"
Pain exploded through his body. Blood sprayed across the cave floor as Haru screamed in agony, tears streaming down his face.
He collapsed, crying uncontrollably.
The tiger approached slowly, its eyes filled with cold killing intent.
It raised its massive paw.
This was the end.
Suddenly—
THWIP!
A small arrow shot through the air and struck the tiger's shoulder.
The beast froze.
Its eyes widened slightly, confused.
Haru also looked up in shock.
"What…?"
From the ledge above, two figures were descending with a rope.
Hyun and Rin.
Young Hyun dropped down first.with short hair and a small cut across his face that gave him a strangely charming look.
He landed lightly on the ground.
Without hesitation, he pushed Rin gently down beside Haru and walked toward the tiger.
Rin immediately ran to Haru.
"Haru!" she cried, kneeling beside him.
Meanwhile, Hyun and the tiger faced each other.
Silence filled the cave.
The tiger roared and attacked.
But Hyun moved.
Effortlessly.
He stepped aside like flowing water, dodging the claws by a hair's breadth. The tiger attacked again and again, but Hyun simply played with it, slipping past each strike with calm precision.
The beast couldn't even touch him.
Minutes passed like this.
The tiger's movements slowly became slower… heavier.
Its vision blurred.
Then—
THUD.
The giant beast collapsed onto the cave floor.
Hyun walked calmly to it and gently placed his hand on the tiger's head.
"It's okay," he whispered softly.
Then he turned and approached Haru.
Haru was still crying, clutching his injured back.
Hyun crouched beside him and smiled warmly.
"Don't cry, kid," he said softly. "You did well today."
Haru sniffed through tears.
"Is… is the tiger dead?" he asked shakily.
Hyun shook his head.
"No. He's just sleeping. After some time, he'll wake up again."
Then Hyun gently patted both Rin and Haru on the head.
"You two did great today. You were brave."
His eyes became serious, yet kind.
"Remember this… we Min people are survivors. Not cowards."
His voice echoed quietly in the cave.
"No matter what situation we face, we handle it. We never run from our problems."
Then he gave them a soft smile.
⸻
Present Time
Haru looked down quietly.
"Yeah… I remember," he said softly. "I'll never forget that day."
Rin smiled faintly.
"Then why are we running now?" she asked gently.
Haru looked up.
Her eyes were steady.
"Master said we're not cowards," Rin continued, her voice firm but warm. "We're survivors."
She slowly took Haru's hand and held it tightly.
"We shouldn't run from this."
Her eyes burned with determination.
"We have to defeat that man… no matter what."
For a moment, the world fell silent.
Under the silver glow of the full moon, Haru looked into Rin's eyes.
Their gazes locked.
Something unspoken passed between them.
Slowly… they stepped closer.
Closer.
Closer.
The night breeze moved gently through Rin's hair.
Haru could feel his heartbeat rising.
Rin's fingers tightened slightly around his hand.
Then—
Their lips met.
Softly.
Under the bright full moon, the two of them shared a quiet, trembling kiss. All the fear, pain, and memories they carried melted into that single moment.
For a brief second…
The world felt peaceful.
