Chapter 23 - Words That Plant Doubt

Lin Yue stood near the door of the professor's office, still staring at the two unfamiliar men.

For a moment she had forgotten why she was even there.

The professor cleared his throat awkwardly.

"Lin Yue, these two gentlemen wanted to speak with you for a moment."

Lin Yue blinked and quickly bowed her head politely.

"Hello."

The older man nodded calmly.

The younger one simply observed her silently.

The professor looked at the clock on the wall.

"Ah… I actually have another lecture starting in a few minutes."

He gathered his papers quickly.

"You three can talk here."

Lin Yue turned quickly.

"Professor—"

But he had already reached the door.

"I'll be back later."

And just like that, he left.

The door closed behind him.

The room suddenly felt much quieter.

Lin Yue stood awkwardly near the desk.

The two men sat across from her.

Finally, the older man gestured to the chair.

"Please sit."

Lin Yue hesitated for a moment before sitting down slowly.

She forced a polite smile.

"So… you said you were researchers?"

The two men looked at each other briefly.

Then the older man sighed.

"That was only a convenient explanation."

Lin Yue's smile froze.

"…What?"

The younger man spoke this time.

"We are not researchers."

Lin Yue frowned slightly.

"Then why are you here?"

The older man leaned forward slightly.

"Because of Mo Chen."

The moment she heard his name, Lin Yue stiffened.

Her heart skipped.

"What about him?"

The older man studied her carefully.

"I think you already know who we are."

Lin Yue stood up immediately.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

She turned toward the door.

But before she reached it, the younger man spoke again calmly.

"We come from the Supernatural Association."

Lin Yue stopped.

Her hand remained on the door handle.

Slowly, she turned around again.

The older man continued.

"You don't have to pretend."

"You already know Mo Chen isn't human."

Lin Yue crossed her arms defensively.

"I don't know anything."

The younger man spoke again.

"You want to hear the truth about him."

Lin Yue's eyes flickered slightly.

The older man noticed.

"You can leave if you want."

"But if you stay…"

"…you might understand who he really is."

Lin Yue stood silently for several seconds.

Then she slowly walked back and sat down again.

"…Fine."

"But make it quick."

The older man nodded.

"You should know who we are first."

He straightened slightly.

"My name is Liang Feng."

"I am a captain in the Supernatural Association."

He gestured to the younger man beside him.

"And this is Gu Yichen."

Gu Yichen nodded slightly.

"We investigate supernatural incidents."

Lin Yue frowned.

"And what does that have to do with me?"

Liang Feng answered calmly.

"Everything."

He folded his hands on the table.

"You know Mo Chen."

Lin Yue immediately replied.

"Yes."

"And I also know he is not the monster you're trying to describe."

Liang Feng did not react to her tone.

"Do you know why he was sealed?"

Lin Yue shook her head.

"No."

Liang Feng's voice became quieter.

"Because he was ruthless."

"He killed countless people."

"He wanted to rule the entire world."

Lin Yue stared at him.

"That's impossible."

Liang Feng continued.

"A thousand years ago, every supernatural faction united to stop him."

"Many gave their lives to seal him beneath an ancient formation."

"The seal required sacrifice."

Lin Yue slowly shook her head.

"I've stayed with him for days."

"He's cold sometimes… but he's not like that."

Gu Yichen leaned forward slightly.

"You saw him kill vampires."

"That was different."

Lin Yue answered immediately.

"They were trying to kill him."

Gu Yichen's expression remained calm.

"You call that different."

"We call it proof."

Liang Feng continued speaking.

"Mo Chen is still weak."

"He has only recently awakened."

Lin Yue frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"His power dropped after the seal."

"He needs a way to restore it."

Lin Yue suddenly understood.

"…My blood."

Liang Feng nodded.

"Yes."

"Your blood temporarily strengthens him."

Lin Yue crossed her arms again.

"But he never forced me."

Liang Feng looked at her quietly.

"Not yet."

The room fell silent.

Gu Yichen spoke again.

"There is something else you should know."

Lin Yue narrowed her eyes.

"What?"

"You are not normal either."

She blinked.

"…What?"

Gu Yichen continued calmly.

"You have supernatural energy."

"You just don't know how to use it."

Lin Yue laughed awkwardly.

"That's ridiculous."

"Maybe."

Gu Yichen shrugged slightly.

"But we've confirmed it."

Liang Feng pulled a small card from his pocket.

He placed it on the table.

"Our headquarters address."

"If you ever start to doubt him…"

"…come to us."

Lin Yue stared at the card.

Her fingers slowly picked it up.

"I don't believe you."

Liang Feng nodded.

"That's expected."

"But someday you might see his true nature."

"And when that day comes…"

"…we'll help you."

At that exact moment—

Outside the hallway, Mo Chen stood quietly.

He had been waiting longer than expected.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

He could sense unfamiliar presences inside the office.

Without hesitation—

He opened the door.

The three people inside turned toward him instantly.

Mo Chen stood at the doorway.

Calm.

Silent.

But his gaze was sharp.

The atmosphere in the room changed immediately.

Lin Yue's heart jumped.

The tension in the air became heavy.

No one spoke.

But everyone understood the same thing.

This conversation had just become far more dangerous.
