Chapter 1 - The Rabbit And The Tortoise

Once upon a time, there was a Hare (the rabbit) who couldn't stop bragging about how fast he was. He spent his days sprinting circles around the other animals, mocking them for being slow.

Finally, the Tortoise, tired of the Hare's overconfidence, quietly spoke up: "I'll race you."

The Hare fell over laughing. "You? I could run to the finish line, take a nap, and still beat you by a mile!" "Keep your boasting till you've won," the Tortoise replied. "Shall we begin?"

The Start

The Fox acted as the judge and started the race. As expected, the Hare shot off like a rocket. In just a few minutes, he was so far ahead that he couldn't even see the Tortoise anymore.

The Mistake

The Hare looked back and scoffed. "This is a joke. It's a hot day, and I'm miles ahead. I think I'll take a little nap under this shady tree. Even if he passes me, I can just sprint past him at the end." He curled up in the grass and fell into a deep sleep.

The Steady Climb

Meanwhile, the Tortoise never stopped. He didn't run; he didn't jump. He just kept placing one foot in front of the other. Step by step. Inch by inch. While the Hare snored, the Tortoise crawled past him. He didn't look back; he just kept his eyes on the finish line.

The Finish

The sun began to set, and the Hare suddenly woke up. He looked down the road and saw nothing. "Ha! Still not here," he chuckled. But then he looked toward the finish line.

There was the Tortoise, just a few inches from the tape! The Hare leaped up and ran with all his might—his legs were a blur—but it was too late. The Tortoise crossed the line just as the Hare reached him.

The Moral

The animals cheered for the underdog, and the Tortoise looked at the breathless Hare and smiled.

"Slow and steady wins the race."
