Chapter 213 - Chapter 213

Never before had Brian faced so many choices—let alone ones this important. This wasn't just a fork in the road; it decided how he would live the rest of his life. Would he walk out that door as an FBI agent, or stay here as a member of the Mafia, and standing beside the Dove of Peace?

Two completely different paths. From this moment on, the "undercover" identity would cease to exist; the past was just a prologue, and a new chapter was about to begin.

Montgomery sensed something was off. He knew Brian had grown attached to the Mafia, that he had been dragging his feet on handing over intel—was he about to betray them outright? If he couldn't control Luca, maybe he could still control Brian.

"Brian!" Montgomery snapped, dropping all pretense. "Get a grip! Don't forget who you are and what your job is! You're an undercover agent—not an actual mobster! Everything you've done around Luca was part of the act. You're playing a role—don't get so damn immersed in it!"

It was a dirty move, saying that out loud on purpose. He was trying to provoke Luca, to drive a wedge between them. With Luca's notoriously suspicious nature, would he still keep Brian after hearing the truth?

Brian's heart pounded. Before, everything had been an undercurrent—now it was all out in the open. He glanced at Luca nervously, only to find the man's expression unchanged, those dark eyes locked onto him without wavering. To most people, that gaze would feel like a blade at their throat, but Brian didn't sense any killing intent.

He had seen many sides of Luca. Sometimes, even while holding a knife, the Dove of Peace would smile and chat like it was just another casual afternoon. But this… this solemn expression was rare. It hit Brian then—even someone as strong as Luca could hesitate inside, could struggle, even if he'd never show it in front of others. Whatever expression Luca would wear toward him from this point forward depended entirely on the choice he made right now.

"Brian, get out," Montgomery urged again. "Did you hear me? Get out. Now!"

Brian ignored him. He looked straight at Luca and said, quietly but firmly, "I'm sorry… old man. I'm an undercover agent sent by the FBI. I should've told you earlier—I lied to you."

"That's because I allowed you to lie," Luca replied, muttering a curse under his breath before continuing. "Brian, you should understand something—I don't often give people a choice. The fact that I'm giving you one now means you're still qualified to stand by my side. But you only get this chance once. Don't waste it."

Brian nodded. At this point, what was there left to hesitate about?

He watched as the agents and doctors filed out of the room one by one… then followed them toward the door.

Montgomery smirked, shooting Luca a smug look. "See? Even you can be wrong sometimes. The great boss of the New York Mafia, fooled by a rookie undercover agent. Imagine what the Lucchese family would say if they heard about this."

Luca didn't even glance at Brian. His tone stayed calm. "When I first joined the Mafia, my boss told me something—never trust outsiders too easily. You never know if they're federal agents. I've remembered that ever since."

He paused. "But humans aren't machines. No one can stay perfectly rational all the time."

"So you let your emotions get the better of you?" Montgomery shot back.

"Emotions?" Luca tilted his head slightly. "You think that's a mistake?"

"That's how your kind works," Montgomery sneered. "Violence, profit, and emotion. Violence enforces rules, profit drives ambition… and emotion? That's the least reliable of all. Worse than religion."

He gestured toward the hospital bed. "Look at them. Father and son—and they end up like this. Blood ties become a burden. When push comes to shove, even your own kid becomes spare parts. That's what emotion gets you. Play that card, and sooner or later you're playing Russian roulette."

Luca didn't deny it. The Sparazza father and son were… special, in the worst way. Even among mobsters, they were an anomaly.

"But you're wrong about one thing," Luca said.

"What?"

Before Montgomery could react, Brian—who had already reached the door—suddenly closed it… and walked back, stopping beside Luca.

Montgomery's face froze. "What…?"

Luca casually handed Brian a gun. "Do you know why the only legal drug is—the one that hooks people the hardest?"

Montgomery stared at Brian in disbelief. "Brian, have you lost your mind?! Do you even understand what you're doing?!"

Brian racked the slide with a sharp click. "What, you blind? Can't you see?"

"You're an FBI agent!"

"Not anymore." Brian shook his head. "I respected that badge. But you? You stopped treating me like a human being a long time ago. Those guys who died at the hotel—they didn't have to die. Your plan killed them. And you think 'I'm sorry' covers it?"

He let out a breath. "Go ahead. Erase my file—just like you did with Sparazza. From today on, there's no such person as FBI agent Brian O'Connor."

Montgomery's face drained of color. He turned to Luca, realization dawning. "You… you planned this from the start, didn't you? You sent him in on purpose!"

"Believe whatever helps you sleep," Luca said flatly. "Doesn't change anything."

With that, he pushed open the glass door to the isolation ward and stepped inside. "Buddy and Sparazza are finished. No one's saving them today."

Just as he reached for the life-support lines, Brian stepped forward. "Let me do it."

Before Luca could respond, Brian yanked the power cord free.

Without the machines sustaining them, the already dying father and son convulsed weakly… their remaining vitality slipping away second by second.

Montgomery stood there, stunned. Just like that, it was over. His credit, his informant, the entire operation—gone.

Moments later, only two lifeless bodies remained on the bed.

[DIng! You and Brian eliminated the Sparazza father and son, preventing any intelligence leak to the FBI and protected the stability of the Mafia.]

Luca glanced at the lifespan notification, then at Sparazza's corpse. The old man had fought desperately to live… but in the end, his time had simply run out.

Brian stared at the bodies, surprised at himself. For his first kill, he'd expected hesitation—revulsion, even. But what he felt was… calm.

"Well done," Luca said with a satisfied smile. "You've got guts. Someone who can run with street racers on the world stage isn't going to crumble over something like this. Breaking the rules suits you."

"So… is it over?" Brian asked.

"Not yet." Luca turned his gaze toward Montgomery. "Someone still needs to take responsibility—for their deaths, and for your former colleagues."

He stepped forward slightly. "Mr. Montgomery… that someone would be you, wouldn't it?"

"They're already dead!" Montgomery exploded. "Luca! Brian! You're both murderers! The federal government will bury you for this!"

"On what grounds?" Luca shot back. "You're the one who captured Buddy. You're the one who tried to save Sparazza. You're the one whose plan got agents killed. Haven't you figured it out yet? Sparazza—no, Agent Heller—his death is going on your record."

The name hit like a landmine.

Both Montgomery and Brian froze.

How did he know?

Montgomery stared like he'd seen a ghost. "You… you knew all along? That Sparazza was Heller?"

Luca's expression didn't change. "How I know doesn't matter. What matters is this—your FBI created him. Approved his plan. Turned him into what he became. How many people died because of him over the decades? Hundreds? Thousands? That blood isn't just on his hands—it's on yours."

He took a step closer, voice turning cold. "You wanted to revive him to take down the Mafia? Too bad. I'm using him to take down the FBI instead. And don't worry—your higher-ups already agree this should stay buried."

Montgomery's unease deepened with every word. Luca knew far too much.

Then—

The door opened.

Standing there was the deputy director himself.

Behind him stood Arthur Bishop and Leon.

Montgomery's face went completely pale.

Now he understood.

Luca had already taken control of everything.

Luca walked over calmly. "Deputy Director Rock, the rest is yours. Montgomery knows too much. I trust you know what to do."

(TN: Idk the name, in the Source is 首席摇滚, so i choose Deputy Director as the title)

Brian handed over the gun.

Rock took it, exhaled slowly, and looked at the two corpses on the bed.

It was over.

Now, all that remained… was damage control.
