Morning came quietly.
Too quietly.
The Morning After
Soft light slipped through the window, falling across the bed.
Yulan woke first.
For a moment, he didn't move.
Li Wei was still beside him.
Close.
Closer than ever before.
One arm resting loosely near Yulan, not quite holding him, but not far either.
Yulan's heart beat faster.
Not from fear.
Just… awareness.
He shifted slightly.
Li Wei's eyes opened immediately.
"…You move too much," he murmured, voice low with sleep.
Yulan froze.
"…I thought you were asleep."
"I was."
A pause.
"Now I'm not."
Yulan let out a small breath.
"…Morning."
Li Wei studied him for a second.
Then, softer—
"Morning."
Quiet Intimacy
Neither of them rushed to move.
There was no need.
Li Wei reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from Yulan's face.
"You stayed," he said.
Yulan blinked.
"…You asked me to."
Li Wei's lips curved slightly.
"And you listened."
Yulan almost smiled.
"…Only this time."
Li Wei leaned in—
And pressed a soft, lingering kiss to his lips.
Slow.
Warm.
Unhurried.
When they pulled back, the moment stayed between them.
Comfortable.
Real.
Back to Reality
Downstairs, Chen Hao was already awake, eating like nothing important had ever happened.
He looked up as they came down.
"…Wow. Look who finally decided to exist again."
Yulan nearly turned around.
Li Wei ignored him.
"Morning, Hao."
Chen Hao pointed between them with his chopsticks.
"I'm not asking questions."
A pause.
"…But I could."
"Don't," Yulan said quickly.
Chen Hao grinned.
"Fine. For now."
The Tension Returns
The shop opened.
The street filled.
But something felt off again.
That same feeling.
Being watched.
Chen Hao noticed it first this time.
"…Okay, no," he muttered, looking toward the street.
Li Wei followed his gaze.
Across the road—
Two men this time.
Not hiding.
Not subtle.
Watching.
Action Scene – Escalation
One of the men stepped forward.
Then another.
They didn't speak.
They just moved.
Straight toward the shop.
Li Wei's expression changed instantly.
Sharp.
Focused.
"Stay inside," he said quietly to Yulan.
Yulan shook his head.
"No—"
"Yulan."
One word.
Firm.
Yulan stopped.
The first man reached the entrance.
Li Wei stepped out to meet him.
"What do you want?" Li Wei asked calmly.
The man smirked.
"To send a message."
He swung first.
Fast.
But Li Wei was faster.
He caught the man's wrist mid-air and twisted sharply, forcing him off balance.
The second man lunged from the side.
Li Wei shifted, blocking the hit and driving his elbow into the man's ribs.
The movement was clean.
Precise.
No wasted motion.
Inside, Yulan's heart pounded.
"…Li Wei…"
Chen Hao grabbed his arm.
"Don't go out there."
"I have to—"
"No," Chen Hao said firmly. "You trust him, right?"
Yulan froze.
"…Yes."
"Then trust him."
Outside, the fight escalated.
The first man recovered, pulling a knife—
Yulan's breath caught—
But Li Wei reacted instantly.
He kicked the man's wrist, sending the knife clattering across the ground.
Then grabbed his collar and slammed him against the wall.
Hard.
"Tell whoever sent you," Li Wei said coldly, voice low and dangerous, "this ends here."
The second man pulled the first away.
"…This isn't over."
They ran.
Aftermath
Silence fell again.
Li Wei stood still for a second—
Then exhaled slowly.
Yulan rushed outside immediately.
"Are you hurt?!"
Li Wei shook his head.
"I'm fine."
Yulan grabbed his arm anyway, checking.
"You had a knife—"
"I handled it."
Yulan looked up at him, eyes full of something deeper now.
"…You always say that."
Li Wei softened slightly.
"And I mean it."
Emotional Shift
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then Yulan said quietly:
"…This is getting worse."
Li Wei didn't deny it.
"Yes."
A pause.
Then—
"I won't let anything happen to you."
Yulan's chest tightened.
"…It's not just about me."
Li Wei looked at him.
"I know."
Chen Hao (Serious for Once)
Chen Hao stepped outside, expression less playful than usual.
"…That wasn't random."
Li Wei nodded.
"No."
Chen Hao crossed his arms.
"Your family?"
Li Wei didn't answer.
But he didn't need to.
