Jessica and Odelia huddled together on the bedroom floor, backs pressed against the side of the bed, their breathing loud in the dim room.
Odelia was shaking so hard Jessica could feel it through the floorboards. The sounds from outside the bedroom door had not stopped. Growls, crashes, snarls and the awful splintering of wood as furniture broke.
Every few seconds the whole flat seemed to shake. Odelia had her hands over her ears, weeping and making all the prayers she knew.
Then something hit the bedroom door with such force that the wood buckled inward. Odelia started to sob profusely.
A second later, another blow came, and the door burst open. The cupboard Jessica had shoved in front of it slid sideways across the floor as a Lycan shouldered its way into the room.
It was huge, dark, and furious. Blood dripped from its jaws, and its eyes gleamed with a wild, yellow light. It stood in the doorway for a heartbeat, sniffing the air, and then its gaze locked on the two women.
