Chapter 1 - Prologue

In a 70 meter long, straight tunnel, two people about 1.8 meters tall in odd, steel-like full body armor were standing at the end of a white strip of light that ran the length of the tunnel, backing a large double door. The strip brightly, almost blindingly illuminated the entire stretch of the smooth, rectangular, metal coated tunnel all the way to the very end.

Their smooth, mirror-like rounded metal visors that came to a sharp point below their chin made you wonder if they could even see at all, but their mannerisms showed that it wasn't a bother.

They were in the middle of an argument. Their tone of voice relaxed when you consider that, given their positions with the door behind them, they were meant to be guarding something.

"But calling it a fruitless endeavor is a bit too cruel isn't it?", a young male voice said in the tunnel, from the person to the left.

"Think what you might. You can't deny that it's the truth.", the other person replied, this one the voice of a woman, her tone with a hint of finality and stubbornness heard in it. You could tell that almost nothing could change her mind on her stance.

"But it's not like he has a choice in this matter.", the first voice argued back, not yet planning to back down on this argument.

"But he does. Live out the rest of his days in hiding. At least then he would keep his pathetic life.", the woman replied, her voice even carrying a hint of disdain.

The man clearly had more to say. You could tell by the deep breath he inhaled that he wanted to reply her. But, after thinking again, he decided against it.

Not only because he knew the woman wouldn't see it from his point of view, but also because, if he was being honest with himself, he agreed with her statement.

'At least I'd get to keep my life if I hid', he thought to himself while outwardly trying to awkwardly change the subject after a few seconds of silence.

"But what do you think we're guarding that requires three 300's to stand guard on the outside of the door? Seems like overkill for a single 200", he said eventually.

"I don't know. But we agree on that at least. This definitely feels like overkill especially when you consider the inside of this room. He has no hope of making it out alive.", she replied, almost hitting the door twice out of habit but stopping herself at the last second.

"Well, whatever we're guarding, it has to be of significant value for him to risk everything to get it despite the odds. Even the Icon's don't have the guts to steal from these people, and they have 'him' as a le…", he was interrupted when he noticed a ripple on the wall beside them.

She also noticed it and both their attitudes adjusted instantly, becoming more serious and well mannered.

A man in similar armor to them walked out but with his visor noticeably different, instead with the part that covers his mouth missing.

Another difference would be the fact that the gauntlets were noticeably thinner than the bulky ones of the other two, but the respectful countenance of the two shows that it didn't mean he was weaker.

While they were all of the same level rank, all of them being 300's, the two of them knew what it meant for there to be differences in the same rank, and he was the embodiment of that saying.

"It's almost time. If he was to come he will come within the next ten minutes. Stay active. And do not look down on him. Because as much as we prepared, I'm afraid it might not be enough to stop him.", The new man, sporting a greying blonde beard, said to the two younger ones as he finished exiting the wall.

This statement was not a small shock to the first two. Who were they? They weren't just some ragtag group of people. They were the from the elite of the elite, the best of the best when it came to manpower for hire in their galaxy. Their team alone had a strength that even those in the late 300's had to fear.

This job was even only taken because of the debt that their leader here owed to these people, and he being here was overly generous of him.

On a normal day, they wouldn't take on a job from such a low tier world, it was far beneath their standing and could smear their organization's name if the other Mongers heard of it.

Before they could question him though, the exceedingly bright tunnel suddenly had a dark spot, drawing their attention and causing them to raise their guard. As complacent as they acted, they knew that such a job that required them to be deployed definitely couldn't be that easy, they wouldn't underestimate their opponent.

Suddenly, right before the the dark spot, appeared a small orb, glowing with a lot of purple lines and symbols.

"Fire, now!!", their boss wasn't about to let a surprise attack come at his team and gave the order.

His squad mates weren't slacking off either as both of their visors split at the bottom, blue lines lighting up all over their armors and converging on their mouths.

An ear deafening scream with a visible blue shockwave left their mouths and flew down the tunnel at the same time a flash of amethyst light was released from the sphere.

All hell broke lose....
