Slaughter City. Three months had passed since their arrival, and Tang San and Hu Liena had already completed the first trial. They were now preparing for the second.
What they didn't know was that someone else had begun the god trials long before them, and that person was Dugu Yan.
Dugu Yan had already completed the fifth trial of the Asura God and successfully broken through to Rank 90. After absorbing a god-bestowed soul ring, her soul power had reached Rank 91, making her a Titled Douluo.
However, the content of her sixth trial left her somewhat perplexed, as her objective was to kill the other two Asura God candidates.
Dugu Yan had originally believed she was the sole successor of the Asura God King. Now it appeared she was not; there were two others, though she had received no prior information about them.
After reviewing the trial details, Dugu Yan was unsure whether the task would be difficult or easy, as she had no knowledge of the other two candidates' strengths. Her uncertainty stemmed from a specific line in the trial description.
It stated that the cultivation and strength of the three participants would be synchronized to the same level—specifically, the soul power level of the weakest individual among them.
The trial also carried another requirement: no soul bones could be used. If one's original strength was greater than that of the other two candidates, their excess soul ring power and soul power would be sealed, restricting them to using only the soul power and soul skills equivalent to that synchronized level.
Dugu Yan wasn't particularly worried about this. Since she was already a Titled Douluo, even if her soul power and rings were partially sealed, her combat experience and insights remained. Her fear was that an opponent's original strength might be greater than hers. If that were the case, the situation would be reversed, putting her at a disadvantage.
Once Dugu Yan chose to begin the sixth trial, she was transported to a special location. It resembled a vast battlefield ruin, filled with endless debris stretching as far as the eye could see.
The moment she entered, she felt a special force suppress her. Her soul power level dropped to Rank 63. Her excess cultivation was locked away; she could only activate six soul rings, and her soul bone skills were sealed.
However, after feeling her cultivation suppressed, Dugu Yan didn't worry much; instead, she felt relieved. The suppression of her cultivation meant that at least one of the other two successors was only at Rank 63, as the rule stated her level would match the lowest among them.
Most importantly, while Dugu Yan could only wield the power of a Rank 63, her soul power source was still Rank 91. This meant her foundation was far deeper than at least one of the other candidates, significantly increasing her chances of victory. Using Rank 91 depth to fuel Rank 63 output was like a person with a hundred million dollars spending it as if they only had six hundred thousand—they could squander it recklessly without any concern for their "budget."
Still, Dugu Yan did not grow careless. There were three successors in total. While she could guess the strength of one based on her suppression, the strength of the second candidate remained unknown. Dugu Yan had experienced the difficulty of the Asura God trials before; she didn't believe the sixth trial would be so simple. Perhaps the key to this trial lay with that remaining unknown successor.
Speculating further was useless. Dugu Yan's current thought was to take the initiative. It would be best to find one person first and either eliminate them or cooperate with them to take down the third party. This would prevent the other two from meeting first and teaming up against her.
Although the condition was to eliminate both others and only one winner could emerge, it wasn't impossible for two to cooperate to kill the third before engaging in a final duel. After all, dealing with a visible enemy was easier than worrying about a "mantis stalking the cicada while the oriole lurks behind."
However, Dugu Yan didn't have much interest in cooperation. Aside from her confidence in her own strength, she wanted to use this trial to temper herself and strive to catch up to Gu Xuan's pace as soon as possible.
Dugu Yan stayed in place for fifteen minutes. Besides waiting to see if the others would spawn near her, she used the time to familiarize herself with her suppressed strength.
After fifteen minutes, she was still alone. This proved that the teleportation was random and they weren't all in the same location. Having understood this and acclimated to her power, Dugu Yan began her search.
The area was massive, comparable to the size of Heaven Dou City, and the ruins provided many places to hide. Because of the suppression, her mental power was also restricted to what it had been at Rank 63. Even though her mental power had grown rapidly after consuming the Yearning Heartbroken Red and absorbing the fifty-thousand-year Mental Concentration Wisdom Skull Bone, at Rank 63, her mental power only reached the peak Soul Douluo level. Her detection range was limited to one thousand meters, so searching would take some effort.
Dugu Yan picked a direction, planning to use her landing point as a start and search toward the East to avoid being aimless.
As she began moving through the ruins, she noticed a peculiar problem. This place wasn't just empty ruins; it was inhabited by strange creatures. Just three kilometers out, her mental power detected an oddly shaped "soul beast."
The beast was dark red, stood three meters tall, and walked upright like a human. However, its limbs ended in terrifying claws. It had a pair of dark gold horns on its head and fleshy wings on its back, suggesting it could fly. Dugu Yan couldn't estimate its exact strength from the distance, but it possessed soul power fluctuations no weaker than a Soul Emperor.
This strange beast wandered through the ruins as if searching for something. Dugu Yan felt her luck was quite good, as no such beasts were near her landing zone. She had waited for fifteen minutes, and since these beasts moved, her not encountering one earlier was a stroke of luck.
Although the creature didn't feel like a threat in her perception, it wasn't recorded in any soul beast compendium she had read. It was likely a mutation or an alien species. If she encountered it, she might not be afraid, but she would certainly expend energy. Against another successor whose original strength was unknown, any expenditure on Dugu Yan's part would be tantamount to revealing a weakness first.
If the opponent was also a Titled Douluo, her advantage would be much smaller in a place where soul skills above the sixth ring and soul bone skills were forbidden. It wasn't that she was overly cautious, but in the face of unknown danger, caution was a necessity.
After all, Gu Xuan wouldn't always be there to protect her. She had learned to stand on her own.
