There was a village called Shalbon. At the very end of the village stood an old pond. Everyone called it the "Black Pond." Even during the daytime, people avoided going there. They said that after sunset, the water of the pond started moving on its own.
One day, a boy named Rahul came from the city to visit his uncle's house in the village. The local boys warned him—
"Don't go near the Black Pond after evening. Whoever goes there never comes back."
Rahul didn't believe in such stories. He thought they were just trying to scare him.
That very night, he took a torch and went alone toward the pond.
Fog surrounded the place. Crickets chirped in the darkness. Suddenly, he noticed ripples forming in the water… even though there was no wind!
Slowly, something white began to rise from the middle of the pond.
When Rahul pointed his torch at it, he saw—a girl! Wet hair covered her face. She was wearing a white sari and standing on the water itself!
In a soft voice she said—
"Did you come… to see me?"
Rahul tried to run, but his legs wouldn't move.
The girl came closer and whispered—
"Many years ago… people also called me brave."
Suddenly, her hair moved away from her face.
She had no eyes… only dark empty holes!
Rahul screamed—and his torch went out.
The next morning, villagers found only Rahul's shoes and his torch beside the pond.
Since then, people say that at night two shadows can be seen near the pond…
