Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

---Otis---

Otis's breath caught at the back of his throat as he took in Roy's impressive frame. If intimidating had a physical body, he swore it would've been the figure currently looming over him now.

Otis had to tilt his head all the way back in order to get a decent view of the imposing beastman. Neither the warrior nor the Elder moved, and for a brief minute Otis truly believed he was staring at a grand statue carved out of stone.

With his mouth slightly open, the tried to fill his old lungs with air as he held on to the last shred of his composure. That was, until Roy moved and directly faced him.

He almost lost his dignity and the meager meal he last ate. The Elder felt sick with the need to cry out and beg mercy. The look in the warrior's cold purple eyes was frigid with determintation, and Otis was sure today would be the day he took his last breath.

'Just a flick of his wrist would end my life' Otis thought. Sending up a quick prayer to the goddess, be truly believed he would be dying an honarable death today.

No matter the outcome, he was determined to help their gentle, loving princess until the very end. She is destined for greatness. Surely the goddess could understand this old male's intention.

---Roy---

Roy stared down at the trembling male for a long while. Then he tossed his bow and arrow into the waiting arms of his temporary second in command.

He watched as the old Margay male called Otis went limp and crumpled into a heap on the ground. Bryant reached down and hauled him right back up on his feet.

"One of the twins is still inside, above the wooden stairs of the hut." announced Bryant. "She prays to the goddess in the shrine."

Otis took a deep breath, then blurted out, "The shrine was burnt to the ground when we were last attacked." His voice now sounded like a strangled whisper, "As soon as Healer Frey arrived from her seclusion, she ordered the altar moved into one of the chambers."

"Frey is the healer and shrine keeper here at the Margay tribe." Bryant volunteered. "It is just as we heard, Leader. They're twins. One is a saint, bent on serving the goddess and the other is a sinner, bent on giving us trouble."

Roy hadn't said a word. He continued to stare down at the Elder and process the information provided by Bryant.

---Otis---

Otis could no longer look up at the warrior for very long, fearing that it would end him prematurely. He turned his gaze to the ground and clasp his hands together, whispering, "Healer Frey is an innocent and she only wishes to continue worshipping the goddess to pass her days."

"I want the other one."

Roy's voice was soft, chilling. Otis felt his stomach lurch again. Feeling beads of sweat forming on his forehead, he began to silently worry for the safety of their beloved princess.

As he racked his brain to provide an answer for the warrior that stood before him, he was roughly shoved to the ground.

"He's wanting the other one!" Bryant shouted. The second in command started to say more, but caught Roy's hard stare and decided to keep his mouth shut instead.

Otis let out a shaky breath whilst moving into a kneeling position. "The other princess's name is Eris." He took another deer breath, staring directly into the Leader's eyes before adding, "She left."

---Roy---

Roy didn't show any outward reaction to the news. Bryant, on the other hand, couldn't contain himself.

"How could she have left?" he demanded in another shout as he shoved the Elder, sending him tumbling towards the ground again.

Roy didn't move a muscle. He observed both the Elder and his second in command, listening intently to what the Margay Elder had to share next.

"There are many secret passages built into the holding." confessed Otis. "Didn't you notice there weren't any more Margay soldiers here when you finally broke through our defences? Princess Eris left with her eldest brother's men a while ago."

Bryant bellowed again in frustration. In a bid to ease his anger, he roughly grabbed the old beastman by the scruff of his neck intending o shove him into the dirt.

Roy could no longer contain his displeasure and took a step forward. His stare directed at Bryant.

He did not raise his voice, but all within the vicinity heard him loud and clear as he stated, "You do not show me your strength when you mistreat the elderly, Bryant. Nor, do you show me your ability to control your emotions when you interfere with my questioning. Do not take my silence as permission to do as you wish."
