Chapter 47 - THE TRUTH FINALLY SPOKEN

CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

Several weeks later, Richard invited Grace and Aisha to the Williams residence.

Grace hesitated before accepting. She had no desire to revisit the past simply because Richard had finally found the courage to face it.

But Aisha believed they needed one final conversation.

When they arrived, Richard was waiting in the sitting room with Daniel.

"I asked you here because I owe you both the truth without excuses," Richard began.

He looked directly at Grace.

"When Robert accused you, I knew the records were suspicious. I had enough information to question his story, but I was afraid of losing the company and everything attached to it. Instead of standing up for you, I allowed the accusations to continue."

Grace's expression remained steady.

"You allowed people to believe I betrayed you."

"Yes."

"You allowed me to leave with my reputation damaged while you protected your position."

Richard lowered his head. "Yes."

Aisha felt anger rising, but she remained quiet. This was her mother's moment.

"I loved you once," Grace said. "That does not mean you had the right to abandon me when things became difficult."

"I know."

"And I will not pretend your apology makes those years disappear."

"I am not asking you to."

Richard explained that he had submitted a full statement to the investigators and had agreed to correct the false accusations wherever necessary.

"I cannot demand forgiveness," he said. "All I can do is take responsibility for my part."

Grace looked at him for a long moment.

"I don't hate you, Richard. But I have built a life without you, and I am not going to undo it because you regret your choices."

He nodded, accepting her answer.

Daniel watched his father quietly. For years, he had wanted Richard to explain himself. Now he understood that the truth could be painful even when it was necessary.

As Grace and Aisha prepared to leave, Richard spoke again.

"Samuel was a good man. He gave you the love and security I failed to offer when you needed it."

Grace's eyes softened at the mention of her late husband.

"Yes," she replied. "He did."

And with those words, she walked out without looking back.
