Those words hit Lucien harder than anything else Enzo had said so far.
Because Enzo was not a man who admitted fear easily.
"And then when I finally saw them having sex…" Enzo's voice dropped, rough and shredded with remembered pain. "It shattered the last restraint I had over Midnight. Since then, controlling him has become a struggle. I stay away from them not because I am weak, not because I do not want revenge, but because I can't control what he will do if I get too close. I feel like he has gone mad. He will kill them, Lucien. He will kill both of them."
His breathing turned uneven.
"I just couldn't kill my own brother."
The confession hung heavily in the air.
For a moment, Lucien said nothing. His eyes widened slightly, all traces of mockery gone now as he finally understood what Enzo had been carrying in silence all this time.
"So you chose this duel," Lucien said slowly, piecing it together, "to end everything."
