Sera had her right hand flat on the table when she started talking. I'd seen that position before. It meant she was reading the space around her, not the space inside her. I'd noticed it back in the sewer expedition, and earlier in those bracket chamber accounts. I noticed it again. Then I went back to my tea.
"The third perimeter check was the eastern marker," she said. "I was looking for boundary continuity past the outer established range. Standard pass. I run three sweeps on each marker because two gives you a reading and three gives you the quality of the reading."
She paused. Her eyes dropped to the table, then came back up.
