Chapter 4 - "My blood can cure zombies?!"

-----

-----

"Holy shit…"

Julian jerked backward like he'd just been electrocuted.

Wait a second…

Wasn't this the female zombie who had been crawling around on the floor earlier?!

How the hell did she end up under his blanket?

What exactly happened here?

Julian immediately checked himself over.

Okay. Everything that was supposed to be there was still there. Nothing had been chewed off.

Well… except for a bite mark on his shoulder. It was still bleeding a little.

His brain felt like it had short-circuited.

His shoulder…

No doubt about it. That had to be her bite.

But then why wasn't he infected?

And this zombie girl…

Why did she actually look kind of healthy?

There was even a faint blush on her pale face.

That wasn't what a zombie was supposed to look like.

And since when were zombies this cute?

Her face was flawless. Her figure…

"Stop. Stop!"

"What the hell am I thinking?!"

"Having thoughts about a zombie… seriously?"

Julian felt a wave of shame hit him.

At that moment, the long-legged zombie girl crawled out from under the blanket.

Julian immediately grabbed the frying pan beside him and raised it in a defensive stance.

"You…"

"Hello!"

The zombie girl tilted her head and stared at him blankly.

Julian froze.

She could talk?

Did that mean she wasn't a zombie after all?

Then what about the way she crawled out of the bathroom earlier?

Cosplay?

That would be one hell of a performance. It was like a perfect recreation of Sadako coming down the stairs from The Ring.

"No, no…"

"Her pupils were white before…"

"That's definitely a sign of zombification."

"But now…"

Julian looked at the slightly airheaded long-legged beauty in front of him.

Her pupils were clearly black.

"Don't tell me…"

"My blood can cure zombies?!"

The thought exploded in his head.

That was insane.

Still, he had to confirm it.

"What's your condition right now?" he asked directly.

"Me?"

"I don't know…"

"I'm hungry."

The long-legged girl rubbed her stomach.

Julian's gaze instinctively drifted downward.

"Uh… maybe you should put some clothes on first."

He swallowed.

There was no denying it. This girl was stacked.

Every extra second he looked, he felt like he was committing some kind of moral crime.

Once she went to get dressed, Julian hurriedly grabbed his own clothes.

As he was getting dressed, he noticed something strange.

His lower back felt incredibly sore.

Was that a side effect of being bitten by a zombie?

He had no idea.

Soon, the long-legged girl came back dressed and sat down across from him.

"Alright, tell me exactly what's going on with you," Julian said seriously. "What happened just now?"

"I don't really know what's going on either…"

"I just remember being really hungry, so I kept eating and eating…"

"Later, when your shoulder stopped bleeding, I went looking somewhere else for food."

She looked a little embarrassed as she spoke.

A chill ran down Julian's spine.

Aren't zombies supposed to eat people?

Since when did they change tastes?!

If she hadn't controlled her strength properly, wouldn't he have been… done for?

The more he thought about it, the more terrified he felt.

"So… are you still a zombie?" he asked.

"I don't know."

"I just feel really, really hungry."

She rubbed her stomach again.

"Stop with those dangerous thoughts!" Julian said quickly.

Right now, figuring out the situation was way more important.

"Do you remember who you are?"

"Do you still have your previous memories?"

"I'm Mafuyu Kirisu! I'm an English teacher!"

"I remember calling out to you for help from the building across the street."

"But I think you knocked me out with something you threw over."

"When I woke up, I was eating something, and then I heard noise outside the door."

"I opened it and the auntie next door attacked me…"

"After that, I wanted to take a shower and clean the wound in the bathroom, but I started feeling worse and worse…"

"I don't remember what happened after that. When I became aware again, I was just… eating and eating…"

"As for my earlier memories… they feel kind of blurry."

Mafuyu Kirisu lowered her head as she finished.

Julian sighed.

From what she described, he could more or less piece it together.

His blood really did seem to cure zombies.

As for how much it cured them…

That needed more observation.

"Can I check your pulse?" he asked.

"Sure!"

Mafuyu Kirisu didn't seem to resist him at all. She agreed to whatever he suggested.

Julian gently held her slender, pale wrist.

"Twenty beats per minute…"

"Way below a normal human's."

"Let me check your pupils."

He leaned in closer.

Her big eyes were honestly beautiful. If you stared too long, you could easily get lost in them.

He forced himself to stay focused.

Soon, he noticed something odd.

Inside her black pupils was a thin white ring.

Definitely not normal.

Which meant…

Mafuyu Kirisu was in some kind of state between zombie and human.

Now that was interesting.

"Grrrr…"

Both of their stomachs growled at the same time.

"Uh, I'll make something to eat first."

Julian rummaged through his hiking backpack and pulled out two packs of instant noodles.

He had wanted to add eggs or something, but as expected, her fridge was completely empty.

Sigh.

Were beautiful women these days really this bad at taking care of themselves?

He shook his head and cooked up a pot of fragrant instant noodles.

"I couldn't find any bowls in your kitchen. Let's just eat straight from the pot."

He carried the pot to the dining table.

Mafuyu Kirisu leaned closer—then immediately gagged.

"No…"

"I can't eat that…"

She covered her nose.

Julian blinked.

Did that mean, in her current state, she couldn't eat normal human food?

If that was true… did she have to survive on his blood?

Absolutely not.

He'd be sucked dry at this rate.

"....."
