Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Should We Eat Grilled Locusts or Not?

Dan Feng listened to Roxy's words and couldn't help but feel amazed at her meticulous standards for choosing a partner.

He looked at Roxy curiously, while at this moment, Roxy was still in a shy state.

However, when she heard Dan Feng's question, she still mustered the courage to raise her head and meet his gaze.

Roxy thought for a moment, then slowly said: "Actually, I often hear others discussing their views and expectations about love. Whenever that happens, I can't help but think about what my own thoughts would be if it were me."

Her voice was gentle yet firm, revealing a serious attitude toward love.

Dan Feng listened quietly, taking in Roxy's beautiful aspirations.

Roxy continued: "I've been an adventurer for so long and have heard many love stories. Those stories have sweet moments and painful partings, but most of them end happily."

Perhaps it was the influence of these stories that filled the current Roxy with longing for love.

Dan Feng nodded, indicating his understanding.

He thought to himself that Roxy really was a detail-oriented person, thinking so deeply even about things like this.

"That does sound exactly like something you would do," Dan Feng said, his tone carrying a hint of admiration.

A flash of delight crossed Roxy's face, and she asked softly: "Is that a compliment?"

Dan Feng quickly replied: "Of course, I don't mean anything else."

Their conversation continued, with light and pleasant topics that didn't have much substance.

However, time passed unknowingly, and soon it was deep into the night.

Dan Feng lit a fire around them, illuminating the area where they were staying.

Moonlight fell on the wheat, coating the golden wheat with a layer of silver gauze, making the quiet surroundings appear extremely beautiful.

But such a good scene didn't last long. A series of huge rustling sounds rang out from the forest not far ahead.

This completely sounded the alarm for Dan Feng and Roxy.

"It should be the giant locusts coming," Dan Feng quickly stood up, then instantly retrieved the Heavy Abyss Pearl from his system space.

He had no intention of undergoing Dragon Transformation; instead, he would use the Heavy Abyss Pearl as a magic stone, which could greatly enhance the power of magic and reduce mana consumption.

Roxy's attention, however, remained fixed on the forest from which the rustling sounds came, and she silently began gathering ice magic.

Not long after, a buzzing sound approached from afar, as if some colossal entity was closing in on this side.

Immediately after, a large swarm of giant locusts rose into the air from the forest like dark clouds, blocking even the moonlight.

These locusts were enormous in size, their bodies a vibrant green, completely different from the yellow locusts common during locust plagues.

This meant that this group of magical creatures had relatively weaker attack power, but even so, they were still a force not to be underestimated.

During non-plague periods, these giant locusts usually fed on crops, mercilessly devouring the hard-earned harvests of local farmers.

However, once a locust plague arrived, they would become exceptionally ferocious, leaving nothing but barren land wherever they went—whether crops or other plants, everything would be wiped out.

Facing the advancing swarm, Roxy unhesitatingly unleashed Ice Lance Blizzard.

Countless ice spears shot toward the locust swarm like a rain of arrows. These ice spears were incredibly sharp, and the locusts' seemingly tough shells were no match for the impact.

In an instant, several locusts were struck in the head and fell straight to the ground like kites with broken strings.

However, this did not stop the swarm's forward momentum.

Their craving for crops had already surpassed their fear of death, and they continued flying toward this side without hesitation.

In the pitch-black compound eyes of the locust swarm, there was only that golden wheat field.

At the same time, Dan Feng also reacted quickly.

He immediately cast wind magic combined with fire magic. A fierce gale howled past, carrying blazing flames that rushed toward the locust swarm like a fire dragon.

Dan Feng carefully controlled his magic, ensuring the flames could effectively kill the locusts without damaging the villagers' crops.

The number of these giant locusts had already reached over a hundred, so he had no choice but to use fire magic to attack them.

When the flames burned their bodies, the fire would spread from insect to insect—this was also a drawback of their large size.

"Roxy, protect the wheat. I'll handle the fire magic," Dan Feng quickly said to Roxy.

Roxy nodded, then swiftly moved next to the wheat. Immediately after, a dazzling water-blue light emanated from the magic stone on her staff.

For every locust Dan Feng's flames burned to death, Roxy instantly used Water Ball Technique to extinguish the fire on the falling locusts.

Soon, these hundreds of locusts died rapidly under Dan Feng's fire magic, with none escaping.

However, along with the locusts' deaths, their charred corpses fell like raindrops, covering the ground.

A strong aroma of grilled meat filled the air.

"Wow, Dan Feng, do you smell that fragrance?" Roxy suddenly caught this peculiar scent, her heart full of confusion.

In this quiet night, what could possibly emit such an enticing aroma?

She walked over to Dan Feng's side, then looked around, trying to find the source of the smell.

Dan Feng said nothing, simply taking Roxy's hand and walking straight toward one locust that had been roasted to a golden crisp all over.

This locust was much larger than the others and was clearly the leader of the swarm.

After stopping, Dan Feng pointed at this locust and said to Roxy: "Give it a sniff. Is this the smell?"

Hearing this, Roxy curiously leaned closer to the locust and sniffed carefully.

Sure enough, that familiar fragrance was coming from this locust.

"Should we eat grilled locusts? I hear they're really delicious," Dan Feng said calmly, as if this were the most ordinary thing.

But only he knew that in his previous life, although he had heard of grilled locusts as food, he had never tried them.

After all, looking at this pitch-black roasted locust, he really found it hard to accept, let alone put it in his mouth.

"What do you mean by that?" Roxy looked completely bewildered. She had no concept at all of the "grilled locusts" Dan Feng mentioned.

This unfamiliar term left her deeply puzzled, and she couldn't help but wonder what exactly Dan Feng was talking about.

"I mean, do you want to give it a try? It might taste really good?"

"It smells fragrant, but looking at it... maybe not," Roxy shook her head. She wasn't someone who ate everything. Unless she was starving to death, she wouldn't touch something that looked so unappetizing.

"If Etrill were here, we could let her try it," Roxy said with a rare mischievous smile. If it were someone with brown hair and green eyes saying that, it would look extremely sleazy.

Somewhere in a tavern, Etrill, who was chanting, suddenly sneezed.

"Weird, why did I sneeze?" Etrill looked puzzled, but she didn't think much of it and went back to chanting the poetry she had written.

"Since the request is complete, let's go find the village chief to sign off," Roxy suggested.

"We'll have to wait until tomorrow. It looks like we'll be sleeping outdoors tonight," Dan Feng said slowly. After all, disturbing an elderly person's sleep was very bad manners.
