Finally, the car rolled to a gentle stop in front of the mansion. I jumped out quickly, but the moment my feet touched the ground, sharp pain shot through my leg.
"Aww…" I groaned, shifting my weight back with a painful wince. My thigh throbbed badly. "Aw… my leg really hurts," I mumbled, gently touching the sore spot.
"Ma'am, please be careful," Lucas called from the driver's seat, concern clear in his voice.
I didn't listen. It was already past seven, and I knew everyone must be upset with me. I hurried inside the mansion, limping slightly as I went.
"Ma'am…" Elena's voice reached me as soon as she saw me in the hallway.
"Where are they?" I asked, breathing a little fast.
She glanced toward the back of the house. "They are both in the backyard, waiting for you."
"Oh my goodness…" My heart sank. "They must be really mad at me. I didn't plan to hurt Jaden's feelings like this."
