JASMINE
Finally, the long day at school was over. The constant reminder of the flash drive in my bag, the proof that Henry had been the one making me repeat my year weighed on me the entire time.
My hand kept fumbling with the small device in my pocket. I hadn't seen Mia since she gave it to me; she must have gone straight to her own department.
The car pulled up at the mansion, and I stepped out, already dreaming of a quiet evening to rest. But the moment I passed through the front door, every single plan for relaxation disappeared right in front of my eyes.
Sitting on the couch were Henry's mom, my stepmom, Christina, and a stern-looking older man I assumed was Mr. Maxwell.
"Well, well, well… there goes my day," I muttered under my breath as I saw them all.
"On your knees!" the man roared.
"Excuse me? Why will the first thing you say to me be telling me to get on my knees when I am not even your child?" I shot back, refusing to bow.
