Chapter 1 - A Mother’s Sorrowful Story

The Beginning of a Dream

In a small village in West Bengal lived a simple housewife named Komola. Her husband, Ramesh, was a daily wage laborer. Their life was very modest—a mud house with a thatched roof, and arranging two proper meals a day was their biggest struggle.

One day, Ramesh died in an accident while at work. In a moment, the protective shade over Komola's head disappeared. She had only her three-year-old son, Raju, in her arms. Darkness surrounded her life, but looking at her son's innocent face, she made a promise—"No matter what happens, I will raise my son to be a good and successful man."

From that day, her struggle began. She worked in other people's houses early in the morning, labored in the fields at noon, and sewed clothes at night. She did everything just to see a smile on Raju's face. She suppressed her own hunger to feed her son. To buy his schoolbooks, she even sold her only pair of gold earrings.

Komola had only one dream—one day Raju would grow up, become educated, become a good human being, and make all her sacrifices meaningful.

The Days of Sacrifice

Raju gradually grew up. He was good at studies. His teachers often said, "This boy will achieve great things one day." Komola's heart filled with pride whenever she heard that.

But behind that pride was endless suffering. Walking through muddy roads during monsoon to reach work, staying awake in the freezing winter nights, working even when she was sick—these were part of her daily life.

Once, Komola fell seriously ill. She did not have money to see a doctor. Still, she did not stop working. Because stopping work meant Raju's school fees would remain unpaid. She used to think, "Let my body suffer if it must, but my son's education must not stop."

Raju passed his secondary exams with excellent results. The whole village celebrated. Everyone said, "Komola, your sacrifices will soon bear fruit."

Komola smiled softly and said, "I just want my son to become a good human being."

The Beginning of Distance

Raju went to the city for college. At first, he wrote letters and called regularly. Komola waited eagerly for his calls and counted the days until he returned home.

After finishing college, Raju got a job in a big company. City life slowly changed him. New friends, a new environment, new ambitions—he became busy with his own world.

The phone calls became less frequent. Once a month, then once every two months. Komola waited, but many times the phone did not ring.

One day, Raju married a girl from the city. Although he informed his mother, he could not take her to the wedding, saying there was not enough space in his small city apartment.

Komola's heart cried silently, but she said nothing. She only said, "Stay happy, my son."

The Final Chapter of Loneliness

With time, Komola became completely alone. She grew older; her body became weaker. The neighbors occasionally checked on her.

One cold winter night, Komola fell seriously ill. The neighbors called Raju, but he said he was out of town for office work and could not come.

Lying on the hospital bed, Komola kept repeating only one sentence, "I just want to see my Raju once…"

But she never saw him again.

Before dawn broke, Komola passed away quietly and alone.

A few days later, Raju came to the village. Seeing his mother's empty house, her old sarees, and the dusty trunk filled with his childhood books and pictures, he broke down in tears. At that moment, he realized that the person who had sacrificed everything for him had needed only a little of his time and care.

💔 Conclusion

A mother's love is the most selfless love in the world. She expects nothing in return—only a little time, a little care, and love from her child.

👉 Love your mother while you still have the time. Because once she is gone, she can never return.
