Cherreads

Chapter 31 - 31

Underworld Gate: A Teleport gate linked to the perilous Underworld; you may enter once a day to explore.

Resources yielded: Survival experience, brave badge.

Notes: 1. Entry requires Survivors to be level 20+ and to have completed class advancement. 2. Entry point is random each time—proceed with caution.

---

Braves Shop: Spend brave badges to buy assorted goods that boost your strength or quality of life.

Notes: 1. Stock refreshes every 12 hours. 2. All Survivors share the same shop, so grab what you want quickly before someone else does. 3. All sales are final—no returns.

---

Lin Bei studied the Island interface and smiled.

He'd been wondering where to grind experience, and the Underworld Gate had just solved that headache.

The Braves Shop was the cherry on top.

He no longer had to worry about the mountain of unspent brave badges in his inventory.

He read the Fine print carefully.

Overall, not bad.

Two caveats stood out:

First, the entry point was random, so prep work was essential.

Second, the shop's stock was shared and limited; if you wanted something, you'd have to be fast.

Other than that, nothing to stress over.

Lin Bei opened the Island map.

His lips curled.

Icons for both the Underworld Gate and the Braves Shop were already marked.

The facilities had spawned directly on his Island with the latest upgrade.

He could use them right now—no need to wait for tomorrow's resource refresh.

"Nice! That means I can dive into the Underworld and grind levels today!"

"But first, I need to get ready."

Eager as he was to raise his level and Combat Power, Lin Bei wasn't reckless enough to charge in head-first.

You only live once; he wouldn't gamble his bright future on impatience.

With the Super-Sign-In System, he unlocked a new subsystem every week—his future was limitless.

This Underworld run had to be handled with care.

"I'll burn my saved experience and see how high I can push my Combat Power."

"If I can break 1,000, I'll be set."

He opened his status panel and chose to level up.

[Notice: You have reached level 23!]

[Notice: You triggered a Ten-fold Critical Hit!]

[Notice: Combat Power +100!]

A torrent of vital energy surged through Lin Bei's limbs; his body felt like a furnace, blood on the verge of boiling.

A single boost of 100 Combat Power no longer hurt as much as before, yet it still rooted him in place like a wooden statue for three or four minutes.

Now brimming with strength, he felt he could punch ten Great White Sharks dead with one blow.

"Again!"

He rolled his shoulders, inhaled, and tapped "level up" once more.

[Notice: You have reached level 24!]

[Notice: You triggered a Ten-fold Critical Hit!]

[Notice: Combat Power +100!]

Familiar heat washed over him; sweat poured as he endured.

This time recovery took under three minutes—faster than before.

His Combat Power now stood at 805.

"Keep going!"

Gritting his teeth, he hit the upgrade button again.

An even fiercer tide of vital energy erupted from his dantian; muscles spasmed as if under crushing pressure.

"Ow, damn, that hurts like hell!"

He staggered and collapsed, grimacing, stars bursting across his vision.

At the same moment, the system chimed.

[Notice: You have reached level 25!]

[Notice: You triggered a Twenty-fold Critical Hit!]

[Notice: Combat Power +200!]

[Notice: Your Combat Power has exceeded 1,000! Lifeform Evolution commencing… please wait…]

Lin Bei rolled on the ground, sweat pouring off him as every inch of his skin felt like it was on fire, stabbing him with unbearable pain.

"Damn it, I let my guard down this time!"

"I never imagined breaking past 1,000 Combat Power would cause something like this!"

"It hurts! It hurts so much!"

He felt as though his body had been hollowed out, utterly weak. If he couldn't still feel his heart beating, he'd have thought his soul had already left for the heavens, leaving behind only a wisp of a remnant.

In the distance, Nilu—who had been crouching by the barbecue rack—had already dashed over, her face full of worry.

"Brother Bei, what… what's wrong with you?"

Her mind in turmoil, Nilu seemed to remember something. She instantly Super Accelerated into Lin Bei's arms, opened her mouth, and began imagining every mountain and sea delicacy.

Drool slid from the corner of her lips and landed on Lin Bei's exposed skin.

The next second, a miracle happened.

Lin Bei's constant howls suddenly twisted mid-air, weakening into comfortable moans.

"Ah… ah… mmm…"

His head spun; he felt pain mingled with pleasure.

The stabbing inside him slowly faded, replaced by waves of tingles that relaxed every pore and drew instinctive groans.

It felt as though he were ascending to heaven!

That blissful, floating sensation was leagues better than even excellent quality invigorating cigarettes!

After who knew how long, Lin Bei finally came back to his senses.

By then his whole body was soaked—drenched in his own sweat and Nilu's saliva—looking like a drowned chicken, utterly ridiculous.

"Sss-ha… sss-ha…"

Still fantasizing about delicacies, Nilu kept squeezing out saliva to heal him.

Lin Bei's mouth twitched; he lifted a weak arm and gently rubbed her cute little head. "Alright, alright, I don't need your spit treatment anymore."

"Huh? Oh… o-okay."

Nilu answered dazedly, her big vacant eyes slowly focusing again.

The next instant she lit up with joy.

"Brother Bei! You… you're all right? That's wonderful!"

But her face quickly fell, and she sulked.

She had just seen mountains of delicacies—she'd almost tasted them!

Yet her consciousness snapped back to reality, and her pounce met only air.

Before her there were no delicacies at all.

Only a Lin Bei soaked in spit and sweat!

The huge gap between dream and reality made Nilu's eyes glisten with tears; she looked pitiful.

"Come on, don't be sad. Here's a Fine-quality shark fin—go grill it. It'll taste amazing!"

Struggling to his feet, Lin Bei took out a Fine-quality shark fin he'd been saving.

"Wow! You're really giving it to me?"

"Yep, it's yours."

"Thank you, Brother Bei!"

Nilu bounced three feet in the air, dimples flashing in her adorable smile.

"I should be the one thanking you. Without your help I'd have lain here stiff as a board for a whole day."

Lin Bei shook his head, still frightened by the thought.

He couldn't quite describe what transformation his body had undergone after his Combat Power passed 1,000,

but the process had definitely been agony.

If Nilu hadn't arrived in time, he'd probably have passed out cold.

"Sigh, so sometimes leveling up too fast isn't a good thing."

"Other Survivors raise Combat Power one or two points at a time—no problems, just refreshment and comfort."

"But me? A mere one- or two-hundred increase, and I'm tormented half to death."

"Hmph, this is clearly targeting me! I only raised it a tiny bit—just a tiny bit!"

He grumbled inwardly while opening his status panel.

He'd see just what benefits this so-called 'life-level metamorphosis' had brought.

If it didn't satisfy him, he'd jot it down in his little notebook,

and when he finally met the so-called 'Celestial Gods' behind Island Survival World, he'd have a proper talk with them!
