Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: What Exactly is This Person Into?!

Oh no, I over-fleeced the sheep.

Within the abyss-like space, Calca slapped her palm against her forehead. This was definitely a lapse in judgment on her part. Although Brilliant-Angel-Mao~Miao was a bit of a letdown in terms of personality, as the "Wind God," he was undoubtedly a figure worthy of respect. Yet, after only a few contacts, this "divine body" was actually showing signs of light depletion. It seemed that being kicked out of the dream previously had been a self-defense mechanism.

Calca immediately adjusted her strategy: she couldn't fish the pond dry. She had to ensure sustainability.

She stepped forward, the darkness beneath her feet transforming into stone slabs to support her weight. Despite having done this several times, she remained highly vigilant. Reaching Brilliant-Angel-Mao~Miao, she once again reached out to touch the gradually fading radiance. Intense light enveloped her, and when the young girl opened her eyes again, she was standing in a training ground within a wilderness encampment.

Around her stood warriors clad in exquisite plate armor, loyally guarding the area. Clearly, this memory fragment took place long after the previous scene of the refugee rescue.

In the center of the training ground, Brilliant-Angel-Mao~Miao was holding a badge, looking eager to try something. "Hey, Surshana, do you think if I cast a Wind-element spell here, I could finally solidify my title as the 'Wind God'?" With that expression, he looked exactly like a teenage boy who had just picked up a straight stick and decided he was a master swordsman.

Surshana shook his head, his calm voice emanating from his skeletal visage. "Even if you don't use Wind Magic, it won't stop you from being the Wind God. It was the humans who started treating us as deities in the first place. Now, no matter what you do, they'll just 'head-canon' a logical explanation for it."

The "Dark God" let out a helpless sigh. Because he was undead, humans worshipped him to pray for the avoidance of calamity. The endless stream of their "head-canons" made him feel mentally exhausted.

Brilliant-Angel-Mao~Miao, however, seemed to be enjoying himself. "Isn't it fine to just treat it like a role-playing game? Surshana, wasn't the reason you stayed until the servers shut down because you liked this kind of stuff? Why are you unhappy now that it's real? Is it because of... those Dragon Lords?"

Since their arrival, several Dragon Lords with levels close to the cap had come knocking. Some wanted to trade information, while others wanted to purge the "filth." In the end, all had been cut down by the group of six.

Surshana's tone turned melancholic. "No, it's not because of the Dragon Lords. I just..." He suddenly reined in his emotions. "Apologies. I'm just having a bit of trouble dealing with all the fan-fiction they've made up about me."

Brilliant-Angel-Mao~Miao enthusiastically threw an arm around his friend's shoulder and began sharing his "pearls of wisdom" on how to handle the delusions of believers.

"Sorry, Mao~Miao-san, I think I'll pass..." Surshana interrupted him, his voice sounding low and haunting. "Speaking of which, when I went to see you a while ago, I saw you making those maids of yours wear cat ears while they..."

"Hontouni Sumimasen (I am truly sorry)!" The blue-haired youth performed a decisive sliding kowtow.

Beside them, Calca's eyes narrowed into slits as she couldn't help but roast him internally: Cat-ear maids? Cats? What exactly is this person into?!
