"What? We're really going to let this bastard go?" Oluo said, extremely dissatisfied.
"Captain Hange must have her reasons. We'll just follow orders," Petra said, glancing at Sawano Kawa's partially missing scalp and frowning. This kidnapper is really ugly.
Hearing this, the Special Operations Squad stepped aside.
Rico clenched her teeth and shot Sawano Kawa a vicious glare.
Sawano Kawa swallowed nervously. Then he felt an even more intense killing intent beside him. Startled, he took two steps back, his knife-wielding hand trembling slightly.
Keith Shadis stared at him like a ferocious beast, his eyes filled with murderous rage, as if he wanted to slice Sawano Kawa into a thousand pieces. His already grim face looked even darker.
"Make way!" Rico shouted reluctantly.
Under the furious gazes of everyone, Sawano Kawa cautiously shuffled forward step by step. He made it safely to the camp entrance. Seeing that no one dared to move—and sensing that his invisibility cooldown had ended—a grin spread across his face.
"Hahahahaha! Eldian pigs inside the walls—just wait for your extinction!" he laughed wildly, preparing to activate his invisibility.
A glint flashed across Hange's glasses.
"Now!" Hange suddenly shouted.
In an instant, a whirlwind-like figure shot in from afar—delivering a powerful kick that sent Sawano Kawa flying. At the same time, Mike seized the moment and hurled a blade, piercing through Sawano Kawa's hand and pinning him to the ground.
"AHHH!!!" Sawano Kawa screamed. He had never suffered such pain before. Before he could even react, a blade was already pressed against his throat.
"Trash. Don't move." Levi stepped on Sawano Kawa's head, his dead-fish eyes full of disdain.
Damn it! Why?! Why are there so many monsters in this world?! Why can't I beat them even with my cheat abilities?! This isn't fair!
Sawano Kawa burned with hatred as he glared at Levi.
"…Hm?" Levi tilted his head slightly when he noticed the look, then pressed his foot harder into Sawano Kawa's face.
"Don't kill him, Levi. He still has research value," Hange said, pushing up her glasses.
The coordination among Erwin, Hange, Levi, and Mike/Miche was seamless—honed through years of life-and-death battles. From the beginning, Hange had never intended to let Sawano Kawa escape; she had merely been stalling for Levi's arrival.
"I know. Erwin already said so. Otherwise, he'd be dead," Levi replied dismissively.
"Captain!"
"Captain is amazing!"
Petra and Oluo excitedly spoke over each other.
Levi waved a hand, then looked toward Winyaad, who was frowning nearby.
"What's wrong, Krista?" Levi asked, noticing the gray tint in her pupils.
"He's not from inside the walls. I can't control him," Winyaad said in surprise.
She knew her ability couldn't control intelligent Titans or pure-blood Ackermans. Since it also didn't work on Sawano Kawa, he was likely another transmigrator like her. This sparked her desire to interrogate him.
Levi nodded.
"Obviously. He called us 'Eldian pigs inside the walls.' That means he's not one of us."
"Eldian pigs? If you remove the insulting part, he's calling us 'Eldians.' Ahahaha! That's fascinating—Erwin's probably going to be too excited to sleep!" Hange exclaimed excitedly.
"Tch. That guy always has a serious face," Levi muttered. But inwardly, he was also curious about Erwin's reaction. Thinking about it, the corner of his mouth lifted slightly.
"Wow, you seem happy. Thinking about Erwin?" Winyaad leaned closer teasingly.
"Chis, looks like it's been a while since your last training. You must be missing it," Levi replied with his usual deadpan expression.
Petra, standing nearby, hesitated several times as she watched the interaction. To her, it looked like Levi and Chis were sharing a sweet moment.
Noticing this, Winyaad leaned toward Levi's ear and whispered:
"Petra is a really good girl. Looks like she admires you a lot."
"Don't talk nonsense," Levi said. "I know Petra. She has strong camaraderie toward me because I saved her."
He glanced at Petra.
Feeling his gaze, Petra lit up and waved.
"Captain!"
Levi nodded.
"I saved her too. Why doesn't she look at me like that?" Chis Winyaad said thoughtfully, placing a slender finger against her lips.
"Idiot. You're a girl. Girls don't fall for girls," Levi said, exasperated.
"That's not quite right. Girls can like girls too. You old man! Wait—did you just admit you know she likes you?" Winyaad narrowed her eyes like an interrogator.
"…Huh." Levi paused.
He glanced at the blade in his hand, tightening his grip slightly.
"A person like me… what right do I have to carry someone's expectations of love? I don't have the spare strength for that anymore. Protecting all of you—that's the best I can do."
As he spoke, he looked back at Oluo, Petra, Eld, and Gunther. His gaze softened slightly.
Winyaad froze for a moment, reminded of her own past life—she too had never placed hope in emotions.
"Heh… old man, don't die," she said with a light, bell-like laugh. Many nearby soldiers were momentarily entranced.
"You don't die either," Levi replied calmly.
"Miss Chis is so beautiful!"
"If only I could have dinner with her…"
"Forget it. A woman like Chis definitely likes the captain. Maybe in your next life."
"What did you say?!"
Gunther, Oluo, and Eld continued their usual bickering.
Winyaad covered her mouth and laughed softly, her long brown hair shimmering in the sunlight.
Mike stared at her blankly, lost in thought.
"Let me go! Let me go! Idiots! Do you even know who I am?! You stupid virtual beings—let me go!" Sawano Kawa screamed hysterically as two guards dragged him away like a dead dog.
"Oh my, oh my. We'll make sure you receive the best prisoner treatment," Hange said excitedly.
At that moment, Erwin arrived with several soldiers. Seeing Sawano Kawa's miserable state, he nodded toward Levi.
"Good work, Levi."
"Nothing much," Levi replied.
"You bastards! The great Lord Chen Si will punish you severely! Chen Si is the strongest warrior of our nation! Hahahaha!" Sawano Kawa shouted crazily, trying to smear Chen Si's name.
Author's Note:
This "fat otaku from Japan" character is about to exit the story. As for why I created such a transmigrator:
I want to stay true to the spirit of Attack on Titan: individual strength is secondary—what truly matters is the shared will of many people united. Those who gain power and become arrogant will only destroy themselves.
No one is truly the sole protagonist. The winner is not necessarily the protagonist, and the protagonist is not necessarily the winner—this applies even more in real life.
I know multiple transmigrators are unpopular. Everyone wants to be the protagonist of their own life. That's hard to achieve in reality, so people hope to experience it through stories.
I will create such characters—but even a protagonist who can control everything must have a reason for it.
Even if it offends some readers, I still want to say this:
Sometimes, you and I are not the only ones.
