Chapter 96 - Chapter 96: Underground Street Past (Part 2)

"This is my big brother—Levi Ackerman! He's incredibly strong—no one can beat him! And the one standing by the door is Farlan Church. I'm Isabel Magnolia! Welcome to our group!"

Isabel spread her arms wide in greeting.

Winyaad stood there in a daze, then looked toward Levi and Farlan.

Levi gave a slight nod. Farlan smiled and waved.

"Thank you… thank you, Isabel."

Winyaad felt genuinely touched. She hadn't expected strangers to accept her so easily.

"Chis, your clothes look pretty high-end. I've never seen material like that in the Underground City. Did you come from the surface?"

Farlan looked at her long brown hair and black stockings, unable to hide a hint of admiration.

"Really?! Chis, you came from the surface? What's the world outside the Underground like?"

Isabel's face was full of curiosity and longing.

Chis couldn't help but feel a surge of protectiveness. There was a trace of pity in her eyes—such a young girl, yet forced to live in such a harsh environment.

"I did come from the surface. My father served the royal government but was killed by them. My mother's whereabouts are unknown. As for why I ended up in the Underground… I was probably abandoned."

Winyaad didn't exactly lie—she simply reframed the truth.

"What?! The royal government is horrible!" Isabel said indignantly.

"Looks like life on the surface may seem glamorous, but it's not as simple as we imagine. Still… as long as we can see sunlight, that's enough, right, Levi?"

Farlan said optimistically.

"Since you're from the surface, you should be good at cleaning. Let me see how well you do."

Levi shot her a cold glance.

"Cleaning?" Winyaad paused in confusion.

"That's Levi's habit—he doesn't like people who aren't clean," Farlan explained.

"Farlan! How many times have I told you not to put your shoes near the cooking pot?!"

Levi's voice suddenly came from outside.

Farlan jolted and hurried out immediately.

"You feel older than me… but if you're not strong enough, I won't call you 'big sister,' you know. Come on, Chis—we're going to clean!"

Isabel grabbed Winyaad and dragged her outside.

Very quickly, Levi's trio became a group of four.

Before long, the entire Underground City knew that Levi now had a new subordinate—a ruthless woman whose combat ability rivaled his own.

Countless thugs and gangs that bullied the weak were either crushed or forced to join another faction—the Damian Group, a well-known organization in the Underground with ties to surface nobles.

They had once tried to recruit Levi and his group but were rejected. After that, they frequently sent people to attack them.

But after Chis joined, their subordinates were slaughtered so thoroughly by Levi and Chis that they became terrified. Some even defected and joined Levi's side.

However, Levi had no intention of building a faction.

He only instructed them to clean the streets near his residence and protect shops that had good relations with him.

Compared to Chis's combat strength, her beauty spread her reputation even faster.

The entire Underground knew that Levi had gained a stunning, alluring woman with a striking figure. Most gangs assumed she was Levi's woman and didn't dare provoke them.

Only one exception remained—

Lord Damian, leader of the Damian Group.

He coveted Chis intensely.

His noble title had been obtained by handing over underground businesses to surface elites. Though he held no real power, his title alone was enough to intimidate most people in the Underground.

He wanted Levi and his group dead more than anyone.

"My lord, that woman Chis… her skin is as fine as that of noble ladies on the surface. There's no one like her in the Underground. Only someone like you is worthy of her,"

his butler Finger said flatteringly.

"Hahaha! Naturally! Even Count Miroslav praised her beauty. He ordered me to obtain her at all costs. Once Levi is eliminated, we'll present Chis to the Count. Then the entire Underground will belong to us!"

Damian laughed loudly.

"My lord… that woman Chis is not easy to deal with,"

a one-eared gang leader said with a strained smile.

"Last time, seven of my men tried to ambush her while she was buying food. She killed all seven—barehanded, holding just a basket! And every single one of them had their lower bodies crushed by her kicks! And Levi… he's almost wiped out all our men!"

He was inwardly cursing—his boss only cared about women, while they were the ones facing monsters.

"Relax. This time, Count Miroslav has given me a secret experimental hallucinogenic drug. Forget Levi and Chis—even ten bulls would be knocked unconscious by it."

Damian smirked.

"Spread the word—Entrance No. 11 will be opened for three days. Anyone can go and enjoy sunlight for ten minutes. That little girl under Levi will definitely go. When the time comes… you know what to do."

"Brilliant plan, my lord! This time, Levi's group won't escape!"

The one-eared leader quickly flattered him, a vicious glint flashing in his eyes.

He was nicknamed "One Ear" in the underworld. Once, he had tried to ambush Levi but was instead hunted down. After kneeling and begging, Levi cut off one of his ears as a warning before letting him go.

His hatred for Levi ran deep.

"Big brother! Entrance No. 11 is open! Anyone can go see the surface—it's ten whole minutes of sunlight!"

Isabel rushed in excitedly after hearing the news.

"When has Damian ever been this generous? In the past, you'd have to pay hundreds just to get a chance,"

Farlan frowned.

"What could his motive be?" Winyaad asked. She didn't feel strongly about sunlight—having not grown up in the Underground, it wasn't as precious to her.

"He's planning something big… maybe to win people over, or lure someone out,"

Levi said, sensing something off.

"Big brother, big sister, Farlan—I can't wait! I'm going now! With you guys around, who would dare mess with us? And we can save a lot of money this time!"

Isabel said impatiently.

Levi narrowed his eyes slightly. Something didn't feel right.

"Let her go," Winyaad said softly.

"Staying in this dark place all the time isn't good for her. Damian wouldn't dare openly oppose us."

She looked at Isabel with concern.

Seeing the hope in Isabel's eyes, Levi's expression softened.

He nodded in agreement.

"Farlan, take some people with her. If you encounter Damian's men, bring Isabel back immediately."

"Got it," Farlan replied, heading out to gather people.
