Chenghai looked at me for several seconds after I answered.
His hand remained beneath the shirt he had given me, spread across my back while he held himself above me. The last of the sunlight had disappeared from the field, but the open side of the porch still caught enough light from the sky for me to see his face.
He didn't ask whether I was sure.
Instead, he lowered his mouth to mine and kissed me until the porch, the farmhouse, and the drive home stopped mattering.
Chenghai's weight settled carefully between my legs. He was too large to cover me without making me feel trapped beneath him, but that wasn't what happened. One arm stayed beneath my back, keeping me away from the harder boards under the blankets, while his other hand moved slowly up my side.
The shirt lifted with it.
His palm passed over my ribs and stopped beneath my breast. He waited there for half a second, watching my face, then closed his hand around me when I pulled him closer.
