Chapter 5 - Aftermath.

The room was large.

About the size of a football stadium.

Its walls were purely white and so was the roof and the floor.

The room was empty, having completely nothing in it.

From one of the walls, an opening formed. A tall figure emerged.

It wore a long white cloak and had a metallic chain at its neck.

The figure was bald, had black eyes and stood at around seven feet tall.

Its movement along the surface was smooth, as if it were gliding rather than walking.

It stopped at the centre of the room. It opened its mouth to reveal razor sharp teeth that looked more like spikes.

Its cloak disintegrated and its figure came into full view.

It had smooth pale white skin. It was thin, having the muscle build of a child The figure had no genitalia or anything that could accurately be used to specify its gender.

The figure hovered just inches above the ground. Its black unchanging eyes scanned the whole room, as if it were looking for something before they focused downwards.

"By the covenant binding us to fate and the sacrifice offered from me, your humble servant. I beseech thee to make thy presence known and speak to thy servant." It chanted in a voice that was neither male nor female but a mixture of both.

The figure lifted its hand and admired it for a bit.

It was pale white everywhere, even the fingernails.

It then tore into it's abdomen and ripped a large hole in it where it then proceeded to let the contents pour out.

The distinct colour, crimson, spread all over the floor. What could be considered its intestines poured out and hit the ground with a loud splat.

While all this was happening, the figure just stared into the distance, its eyes wondering. As blood continued to flow, patterns began appearing on the walls, shaped like weird golden words.

The room soon turned purple and the air in it thinned out.

"The fact that you are calling out to me must mean the the plan is a success." A male voice spoke out of nowhere.

"Yes it is. I've already confirmed the arrival of the three groups across various levels of my body." The figure replied.

"Good."

There was a silence for about five seconds before the figure once again spoke.

"Now that I have done all that you've demanded, will you not honour our covenant and release me from my bondage?"

"Hmmmm, I'll consider it if I have the time."

"What do you mean you'll consider it. S....."

Before it could finish the sentence, the figure was pinned down by a great invisible force. The longer it went on, the more it felt like it was about to perish.

"I said I'll consider it if I have the time." The man repeated, this time with a threatening tone.

"Understood master." The figure croaked.

With that, the pressure lessened and the room went from purple back to white.

The writings on the wall disappeared. The figure picked itself up and the wound on its abdomen began healing.

It turned around and formed a new white cloak over itself then it exited the room.

*************

Minutes passed, then hours.

Neither knew how long they had been playing dead for.

On multiple occasions they fell asleep.

At a point they spent their time looking at the corpses and hoped they would not get nightmares from seeing them.

Playing dead had made their muscles go stiff. At first it was uncomfortable but eventually they all grew numb.

Their relief was marked by the daylight which was occasioned by the creatures' retuning to the endless sea with loud splashes.

They weren't sure if all of them had gone back and lay for another hour before they decided to get back up.

"Damn it, my back hurts!" Ema exclaimed as she straightened up.

Jasmine groaned as she forced herself to rest on one of the seats. She quickly began moving her joints around in order to restore the sensation in them.

"Can't believe your plan actually worked."

"I can't believe so either. Though I did hate every single hour we spent lying here." Ema said in a soft tone. She looked disturbed but honestly who wouldn't be.

Within a span of hours they had experienced multiple near death experiences and witnessed the aftermath of a massacre let alone lying beside it.

They also weren't sure whether or not they would be able to go back home or they would die in that strange world.

"We should clean up." Jasmine suggested, changing the topic abruptly.

"Sure, but how?"

Jasmine gave her a look that was questioning her intelligence.

"You forget we are in the middle of a sea."

"Oh yeah. Now that you mention it...."

"Come on."

Jasmine led her towards the front carriage where there was no blood.

She then took a water bottle from the bag she had left and filled it up with water from the sea through a large hole that one of the creatures had made on the wall.

She was cautious as she feared that the creature's may attack from the water.

But none did

They stripped to their undergarments and they took turns in using the bottle to wash themselves up. None of them had the guts to immerse themselves in that sea so the bottle would do. Jasmine helped helped Ema clean her snow white hair that had turned partly red and sticky.

Ema did the same for her. After washing the blood off, they rinsed their uniforms and carefully climbed the top of the train where they lay them on the roof for them to dry.

None of them had noticed that despite feeling like hours had gone by, the morning still looked young.

They sat on the top for a while and basked in the rays of the sun, the sky having been cloudless.

"Hey Ema, do you think we'll ever be able to go back home?" Jasmine asked.

Ema lay on her back and sighed.

"Honestly, I don't know. Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

Ema looked at Jasmine who had her knees to her chest.

"Aren't you scared?"

"Of course I am. What makes you doubt it?"

"The way you handled yourself in that crisis. How you saved my life without hesitation. And even how you manage to keep a cool face and voice even when shit goes haywire. It's like you are not bothered or stressed."

'Looks like she didn't see how panicked I was when I saw that thing.' Jasmine said to herself.

"But then again," Ema continued, "You've always been like that. And I'm glad for that."

"You act like you didn't save me from being run over by that thing and the plan to play dead too."

"Well I did do that." Ema said with a proud grin.

Ema went on to hug Jasmine from the back.

"Let's try our best to survive and go back home, okay."

"Okay." Jasmine replied. Her eyes glued on to the rising sun but her mind focused on the warmth of Ema's body.
